About The Position

As the Lead Diesel Technician for our Sanford, NC shop, you will serve as the senior technical expert and day-to-day workflow leader. You will balance hands-on diagnostics and repairs with planning, coordination, and coaching responsibilities that keep our operation running smoothly. Some days you will be deeply involved in working on tractors and trailers; other days your focus will be on assigning work, reviewing repairs, analyzing maintenance data, and supporting your team. This role requires a true servant leader who can model safety, quality, and professionalism while making sound decisions in a fast-paced fleet environment. Success in this position depends on strong technical skills, DOT knowledge, computer proficiency, and the ability to plan, organize, and communicate effectively.

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma, or equivalent, and at least three (3) years of experience working on heavy-duty equipment, including at least one (1) year in a leadership or lead-technician capacity. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Tool Ownership // Owns and utilizes a complete set of tools required to perform maintenance and repair tasks.
  • DOT Capability // Possesses the ability to complete DOT inspections or is willing to obtain required certification.
  • Diagnostic Skills // Uses equipment diagnostic software and troubleshooting techniques to identify and resolve issues.
  • Safety Compliance // Follows and helps enforce shop safety procedures and DOT regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • An Associate’s degree or certification in diesel technology, automotive technology, or a related field, and at least four (4) years of experience working on heavy-duty equipment, including two (2) years of leadership experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Advanced Diagnostics // Diagnoses complex electrical, electronic, and mechanical faults using advanced tools and methods.
  • Leadership Experience // Demonstrates a track record of mentoring, training, and guiding technicians within a shop setting.
  • Fleet Environment // Brings experience working in a high-volume fleet maintenance operation with multiple units and priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership // Lead, coach, and support technicians while fostering a positive, servant-leadership shop culture.
  • Workflow Coordination // Assign work orders, balance shop workload, and ensure timely completion of preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Technical Repairs // Perform hands-on diagnostics and complex repairs on Class A tractors, trailers, and related equipment.
  • Preventative Maintenance // Complete preventative maintenance services including oil changes, filter replacements, APU services, and DOT inspections.
  • Diagnostic Analysis // Utilize diagnostic software and mechanical expertise to identify root causes and determine appropriate repair strategies.
  • Quality Oversight // Review and verify completed repairs from initial inspection through final sign-off to ensure safety and quality standards are met.
  • Reporting and Systems // Create and manage repair orders while accurately recording labor time, parts usage, and notes in maintenance software.
  • Safety and Compliance // Promote and enforce shop safety procedures and DOT regulations to protect drivers, technicians, and equipment.
