About The Position

In this lead technician position, you'll hit the ground running in a large, fast-paced fleet environment. As a shop lead, You'll ensure that our shop operations and equipment run smoothly while serving in a hands-on leadership role. You'll tackle more complex tasks and lead in supporting apprentices and entry-level technicians who are just getting started in their careers. You'll handle the process from the initial inspection through the final inspection. You'll utilize your mechanical expertise to keep our drivers safe and ensure our operations run smoothly, like a well-oiled machine. Requirements

  • Diesel Repair // Demonstrable experience in the completion of preventative and corrective maintenance on heavy-duty equipment.
  • Tool Proficiency // Possesses an expert level understanding of both hand and power tools.
  • Time Management // Proven ability to operate independently in a dynamic environment while managing one's own time effectively.
  • Communication Skills // Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills, which are required to communicate and track repair orders effectively.
  • Diagnostics and Computer Skills // Proficiency using equipment diagnostic software, as well as prior experience using maintenance tracking software.
  • A(n) High School Diploma, or equivalent, and at least five (5) years of experience working on heavy equipment. An equivalent amount of education and experience may be considered.
  • Leadership // At least one (1) year of experience in a leadership position, preferably within a shop environment.
  • Tool Ownership // Must own and utilize a complete set of tools required for performing all maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Employment is contingent upon completion of the SPD employment process (including a background check).

Nice To Haves

  • A(n) Associate's degree or certification in diesel technology, automotive technology, or a related field, and at least seven (7) years of experience working on heavy equipment. An equivalent amount of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership // Serve as a front-line leader to ensure the shop operations run smoothly by collaborating with shop leadership and employees.
  • Preventative Maintenance // Complete preventative maintenance (PMs) on a variety of trucks, trailers, and equipment. PMs include oil changes, filter services, APU services, DOT inspections, and other services.
  • Corrective Maintenance // Perform corrective maintenance on our fleet, including accident work, body panel replacement, electrical diagnosis, driver monitoring equipment, and other complex issues.
  • Diagnosis // Utilize diagnostic software and advanced mechanical knowledge to inspect, diagnose, and repair equipment.
  • Maintenance Software // Review maintenance software to identify service needs and repair history trends. Additionally, creates one's own repair orders and ensures a high level of accuracy in time tracking, parts utilized, and notes.
