About The Position

Gateway Fiber is seeking an outstanding individual to fill our Lead Designer role. Gateway is creating a leading, national fiber-to-the-home platform. With the support of its financial sponsor CBRE Investment Management, Gateway plans to reach 500,000 homes and businesses with its service over the next several years. Gateway provides faster, more reliable internet with a simple pricing model and industry-leading customer service. Gateway is hiring a Lead Designer to help guide our design team and make sure our construction plans are accurate, clear, and easy to use.

Requirements

  • Degree or background in drafting, design, engineering, or related work (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in design or drafting, preferably in utilities, telecom, or construction.
  • Skilled in CAD software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings and how designs are used in the field.
  • Detail-oriented with proven experience checking and approving design work.
  • Organized and able to manage several projects at once.
  • Good communication skills and some experience leading or mentoring others.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally and collaborate with other teams effectively

Responsibilities

  • Review and approve drawings to make sure they meet company standards and are ready for construction.
  • Set and improve design processes and standards for the engineering team.
  • Work with engineers and field crews to make sure designs are practical and efficient.
  • Lead and support drafters and junior designers by checking their work and helping them grow their skills.
  • Prepare final design packages, including drawings and supporting documents.
  • Keep track of multiple projects and deadlines, making sure work is organized and delivered on time.
  • Use survey data and past records to support new designs.
  • Communicate with managers about workload, deadlines, and budget limits.
  • Be a key link between the Engineering and Construction teams to keep everyone aligned.
