About The Position

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Database Engineer in the IT Service Operations group. This role involves being a lead database engineer with the highest technical expertise in design, administration, high availability, and operational support for next-generation database platforms like MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and YugabyteDB. The successful candidate will join a growing and high-energy team supporting enterprise Customers. As a Lead Database Engineer, you will be responsible for providing the highest technical expertise for the planning, design, implementation, upgrade, patching, capacity planning, and day-to-day operations for NextGen database platforms, including technical communications with the vendor. This role will also provide oversight, mentoring, and leadership to less experienced on-shore and off-shore staff. The successful candidate must be comfortable working on multiple dynamic projects simultaneously, collaborating with database architects, application teams, information security teams, and leadership at all levels of the organization.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of Database Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 5+ years of Logical + Physical Data Modeling experience.
  • 5+ years of supporting highly available distributed databases.
  • 5+ years of experience in supporting software development life cycle/Agile for large-scale distributed technology projects and migrations.
  • 4+ years of MongoDB and PostgreSQL experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer experience with YugabyteDB
  • Experience supporting database implementations in a regulated banking or financial industry.
  • Knowledgeable in the Python programming or scripting language
  • Experience in leading the complex or critical data/ database management initiatives and projects.
  • Experience with large data sets, transactional platforms, or a combination of both
  • Experience building and supporting a MongoDB Ops Manager environment.
  • Experience implementing OIDC and/or LDAP authorization and authentication for database security.
  • Experience supporting PostgreSQL databases scaled across data centers.
  • Experience with MongoDB cluster migration and supporting MongoDB Shards
  • Experience with backup and restore of MongoDB databases using LVM snapshots and Ops Manager backups.
  • In-depth understanding of MongoDB HA strategies, including replica sets.
  • Experience in defining PostgreSQL disaster recovery plan.
  • Experience with setting and tuning MongoDB and PostgreSQL system parameters
  • Experience using MongoDB Ops Manager and PostgreSQL Enterprise Manager.
  • Experience with Jira and Agile delivery

  • PostgreSQL/Cloud certification
  • Exposure to Artificial Intelligence and GenAI

Responsibilities

  • Provide the highest technical expertise for the planning, analysis, design, implementation, maintenance, and control of the organization's MongoDB and PostgreSQL databases, engaging with DBA teams, architecture, Scrum Master, Product and supporting teams to create efficient and consistent solutions.
  • Assure successful sprint and release planning following agile development methodology.
  • Lead the most complex or critical MongoDB initiatives that typically involve multiple disciplines and multiple business groups, including database architecture, other Core Engineering teams, design, integration, and/or data modeling.
  • Provide highest level of expertise in complex databases troubleshooting and problem resolution and drive continuous process improvement as preventive actions.
  • Recommend improvements to web application processing issues and design.
  • As the recognized technical expert, consult extensively with multiple client groups to provide strategic solutions, influencing long-range internal and enterprise-level data/ database architecture and management strategies.
  • Design and certify next generation database technologies and provide technical leadership and recommendation into the future direction of database technology.
  • Able to handle multiple/conflicting projects and deadlines; able to work on call and provide production support in extended shifts.
  • Demonstrate proficient communication skills with management, application teams, vendors, and systems administrators.
