About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Lead Data Modeler with deep insurance industry knowledge to join our data management team. This role will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise data models specifically for Business Insurance operations while ensuring adherence to data governance standards and industry best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM related field or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience in data modeling and database design within the insurance industry.
  • Deep understanding of commercial insurance products, underwriting processes, claims management, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with insurance data concepts including policy administration, claims processing, and risk management.
  • Familiarity with insurance industry standards and regulatory frameworks.
  • Extensive experience in logical and physical data modeling with proven track record in insurance environments.
  • Strong experience implementing data governance frameworks within insurance organizations.
  • Deep knowledge of industry models, specifically Object Management Group (OMG) standards and methodologies.
  • Advanced proficiency in Erwin Data Modeler, including: Complete compare functionality for insurance model analysis Report generation capabilities for business stakeholder communication. DDL creation and database deployment for insurance systems. Model naming conventions and standardization for insurance entities. Import function utilization for model integration and updates.
  • Proven experience in enterprise-level insurance data modeling projects.
  • Experience working with insurance business stakeholders, IT teams, and regulatory compliance groups.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with insurance domain context.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts to insurance professionals.
  • Experience with multiple database platforms supporting insurance operations
  • Knowledge of insurance data warehousing and business intelligence requirements.
  • Understanding of insurance regulatory compliance requirements (state regulations, NAIC, SOX, etc.).
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, related STEM field, or its equivalent in education and/or work experience.
  • 6 additional years of data engineering experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leveraging generative AI tools to support data modeling activities, including model design assistance, documentation generation, and data analysis is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop data models that accurately represent complex business insurance concepts, processes, and relationships
  • Model insurance-specific entities including policies, claims, underwriting, risk assessment, and regulatory reporting
  • Collaborate with architects, business leaders and technical teams to ensure data models support critical insurance operations
  • Ensure data models accommodate various business insurance product lines (commercial property, liability, workers' compensation, etc.)
  • Create comprehensive logical and physical data models to support business insurance requirements
  • Develop conceptual, logical, and physical data models for complex enterprise insurance systems
  • Ensure data models align with insurance business processes and support both operational and analytical needs
  • Design models that support regulatory compliance and industry reporting requirements
  • Implement and maintain data governance frameworks specific to insurance operations
  • Establish and enforce data standards, naming conventions, and modeling best practices for insurance data
  • Ensure compliance with insurance regulatory requirements (state regulations, NAIC standards, etc.)
  • Participate in data governance committees and provide insurance domain expertise
  • Leverage industry standard models, with particular expertise in Object Management Group (OMG) standards
  • Adapt and customize industry models to meet organizational insurance requirements
  • Stay current with insurance industry modeling trends and emerging standards
  • Utilize Erwin Data Modeler for all modeling activities, including: Complete model comparison and analysis for insurance data structures Generation of comprehensive modeling reports for stakeholder review DDL (Data Definition Language) creation and deployment for insurance databases Implementation of model naming conventions aligned with insurance standards Effective use of import functions for model integration and updates
