About The Position

The Lead Data Center Engineer is responsible for overseeing and executing data center operations, including rack and stack, cabling, labeling, equipment installation, and maintenance. This role involves planning, scheduling, and assigning work to the team while ensuring efficient and organized deployment of hardware infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and a commitment to maintaining high operational standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in data center operations, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Proficiency in rack and stack procedures, structured cabling, and network infrastructure setup.
  • Knowledge of power and cooling requirements in a data center environment.
  • Experience with inventory management and asset tracking tools.
  • Familiarity with networking concepts (switches, routers, firewalls) and basic troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of ITIL frameworks and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the installation, configuration, and decommissioning of servers, network devices, and storage systems.
  • Manage structured cabling, ensuring proper routing, termination, and labeling for easy identification and troubleshooting.
  • Develop work schedules, assign tasks, and track progress to ensure timely completion of projects.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to data center technicians, ensuring adherence to best practices and operational standards.
  • Coordinate the setup and maintenance of power and cooling requirements for data center infrastructure.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment, track inventory levels, and coordinate procurement when necessary.
  • Ensure all cabling, labeling, and hardware installations comply with industry standards and company policies.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, network, and connectivity issues promptly.
  • Work closely with network engineers, system administrators, and vendors to support infrastructure requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for operational improvements and implement best practices for efficiency and scalability.
