About The Position

Creative Planning is one of the nation's top wealth management firms, delivering comprehensive financial planning and investment management for thousands of clients. Over time, our clients asked for more than financial advice—they wanted a partner who could also help run their businesses more efficiently. That's why we built Creative Planning Business Services, a growing division that supports clients with accounting, tax, managed IT, and most importantly, Data & Automation Solutions. Our mission is simple: to help thousands of business owners use technology and data to become more profitable, more efficient, and better equipped for growth. Within this team, we don't sit in an ivory tower polishing models that never get used. We build. We solve. We deliver. Clients bring us messy systems, disconnected tools, and ambitious goals—and we cut through the complexity, apply the right technology, and make it work. Some projects are quick-turn automations. Others are enterprise-grade data warehouses. All of them demand creativity, adaptability, and a bias for action. We're not looking for code poets. We're looking for builders who love shipping solutions that change how businesses run. We need a Lead Data & Automation Engineer who isn't just a strong builder, they're the person others rely on when the path forward isn't obvious. You'll be the one who can untangle complexity, make clear decisions, and guide the team toward a solution. You'll combine hands-on building with leadership, showing others not just what to do but how to think about the problem. Your default mode is action: moving ideas from stuck to shipped.

Requirements

  • Strong Python chops and confidence moving between stacks.
  • Experience across cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).
  • Solid grounding in data warehousing (Snowflake, BigQuery, Fabric) and SQL/DBT.
  • Hands-on work with automation platforms (Power Automate, Zapier, etc.).
  • Interest in LLMs and AI tooling as force multipliers.
  • At least 6 years in data/engineering/automation roles, with leadership or mentorship experience.
  • A pragmatic mindset: client outcomes > beautiful code.
  • Someone who thrives in motion, not in bureaucracy.

Responsibilities

  • Own the hardest problems: step in where others get stuck and clear the path.
  • Be the final call: when a solution is needed, you provide it—practically and decisively.
  • Lead by example: architect, code, debug, and ship.
  • Teach and mentor: grow the team by showing them how you break down the 'unsolvable.'
  • Engage with clients: listen, translate needs into solutions, and deliver with confidence.
