About The Position

Leads, plans and directs daily tasks and projects for the custodial team assigned to the building. Visually inspect and secure the building prior to the end of each shift. Requests Skilled repairs in emergencies or when major adjustments and maintenance work are required. Requisitions and dispenses custodial supplies and equipment and keeps inventory of supplies and equipment on hand. Monitors all HVAC and other systems including low temperature alarm, burglar alarm, room heat and heating controls. May operate and clean furnace and low-pressure boilers, heating and ventilating systems. Performs custodial and routine maintenance tasks inside and outside the school building, including but not limited to: Mop, dust, scrub, and wax, collect and dispose of rubbish, shovel snow, clean walks and grounds, move furniture, replace light bulbs, and clean sewer lines. Cleans walls, floors, horizontal surfaces in public areas, classrooms, corridors, offices and other rooms including but not limited to furniture and other physical properties. Sand and finish floors, spot-patch walls and woodwork and paint as required. Performs maintenance inside and outside of building(s). Performs any duty related to the care of a school building including provisions for the safety and conveniences of occupants. Responsible for building security and answering alarms when necessary. Provide instruction performed by 1st and 2nd shift Custodians ensuring that the work is performed, timely, accurately, correctly and efficiently Deliver a wide array of goods and materials within and outside of the district including but not limited to furniture, cleaning equipment, paper supplies, discarded items, etc.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a custodial capacity in the private or public sector or successful experience preferably as a maintenance worker in a school system
  • Working knowledge of the materials, methods, implements and devices used in cleaning operations and the care of custodial equipment.
  • Knowledge of care and operation of low pressure boilers, heating and ventilating systems, ability to do semi-skilled building maintenance and repair work.
  • Basic knowledge of the operation of burglar alarm systems, low temperature alarms and heating controls.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent Required.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Possesses the ability for lifting and carrying, up to 50 pounds
  • Demonstrates manual dexterity
  • Capable of bending and stooping, reaching above shoulder level and climbing and descending stairs and ladders.
