About The Position

The Lead Custodian at the University of California Riverside is responsible for overseeing custodial operations, ensuring cleanliness and sanitation across campus facilities. This role involves leading a team of custodial staff, performing various cleaning tasks, and maintaining a safe and hygienic environment for students, faculty, and staff. The Lead Custodian acts as a subject matter expert, providing guidance and training to team members while also managing day-to-day operations in the absence of the supervisor.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of two years of experience in custodial/housekeeping operations with an emphasis on floor care.
• Experience in safe use of custodial equipment and machinery.
• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and their safe usage.
• One year of experience leading or supervising custodial staff (preferred).
• Valid Driver License.

Nice To Haves

• Experience prioritizing work orders and emergency requests (preferred).
• Basic knowledge of hazardous materials cleanup (preferred).
• Familiarity with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) (preferred).
• Knowledge of UCR/UC policies and procedures (preferred).
• Ability to use desktop computers and MS Office programs (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Lead and guide custodial staff in performing cleaning and maintenance tasks.
• Maintain, disinfect, sanitize, and preserve campus facilities.
• Perform floor care including stripping, waxing, buffing, and mopping.
• Execute custodial maintenance duties using various cleaning equipment and chemicals.
• Oversee critical day-to-day operations in the supervisor's absence.
• Communicate effectively with colleagues, staff, faculty, and students.
• Manage refuse and recycling efforts across campus facilities.
• Assist with event setup and support as needed.
• Ensure compliance with safety procedures and protocols during cleaning tasks.
