About The Position

Under the direction of the Supervisor, Custodian, the Lead Custodian – School works in a team environment to accomplish daily and weekly duties with the goal of maintaining the general maintenance, appearance and cleanliness of the Tribal school facility. This role assists in championing the Tribe’s goals and priorities while ensuring all actions reflect and uphold the Tribal Community’s vision, mission, and values.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in custodial/housekeeping required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively in English before groups, customers and employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to compute ratios and percentages.
  • Must be able to demonstrate good judgment skills in all areas within the scope of responsibility.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
  • As a condition of employment, candidates and incumbents are required to pass pre- and post-employment screenings including Live Scan, background, drug testing and tuberculosis (TB) testing.
  • Authorized Driver: Role requires operation or driving of Tribe-owned vehicles or driving patron vehicles. A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the insurance carrier is required.

Responsibilities

  • Cleaning and Sanitizing Cleans and sanitizes classrooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, gymnasium, pavilions, parks, and other applicable work areas. Empties wastebaskets, replaces trash liners, and transports waste to disposal areas. Uses best-practice cleaning techniques for daily, weekly, and long-term duties, including timely cleanup ofaccidents. Dusts furniture and equipment, polishes metalwork and woodwork, and cleans windows, door panels, and sills. Maintains a high standard of cleanliness to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.
  • Team Leadership and Collaboration Collaborates with custodial team members to ensure proper execution of all duties, including cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitizing surfaces. Provides guidance and support to custodial staff, strategically deploying team members for maximum effectiveness. Ensures custodial staff remain informed of relevant procedures, techniques, materials, and equipment updates. Assists in training new hires
  • Quality Assurance and Customer Interaction Conducts walkthrough inspections of assigned areas post-project completion to verify thoroughness and adherence to standards. Engages with staff and visitors in a professional manner, addressing concerns and ensuring a positive experience.
  • Event Setup and Breakdown Oversees and assists with setup and breakdown of school events, including tables, chairs, canopies, and decorations. Works scheduled events to ensure custodial requirements are met throughout the duration. Coordinates with internal departments and Public Works management to determine custodial needs for events.
  • Work Order and Inventory Management Ensures work order assignments are completed accurately and submitted for closure. Records team members’ time on projects and maintains documentation for accountability. Conducts weekly inventory of equipment, products, and chemicals; submits procurement requests to maintain operational readiness.
  • Safety and Compliance Maintains equipment in safe and operational condition. Implements safety protocols, including signage for wet floors and restricted areas. Upholds and enforces management-established procedures and best practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.
