About The Position

The Lead Custodian is responsible for coordinating the routine cleaning and maintenance procedures necessary to maintain a high standard of safety, security, cleanliness, and efficiency of the building operations and grounds. This position also involves monitoring the performance and deficiencies of custodial staff.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent, preferred
  • Satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check
  • Minimum of two (2) years in custodial services
  • Supervisory ability or supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of plant operations, cleaning methods and procedures, minor repairs, security, heating and ventilation, and grounds maintenance
  • Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment
  • Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with custodial staff to train them in the proper use of materials and equipment
  • Establish procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities
  • Oversee physical arrangements for school rental, dances, and other extracurricular activities when requested
  • Propose shift schedules and inform administration when replacement or extra help is required
  • Inform the principal and designee of defective or unsafe plant conditions
  • Complete minor repairs within resources and make necessary adjustments to plant equipment and fixtures when requested
  • Submit work orders on maintenance repairs and conduct follow-up to ensure timely completions
  • Develop daily work schedules for campus custodians when requested by school administration
  • Attend custodial in-service when requested
  • Handle emergencies and perform other assignments directed by the principal or designee
  • May be required to do some touch-up painting
  • Implement and maintain established cleaning schedule for floors, chalkboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, and restrooms
  • Keep light bulbs and tubes replaced
  • Maintain cleanliness of school building and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play areas
  • Comply with local law and procedures for storage and disposal of trash
  • Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
  • Ensure compliance with the Texas Educator's Code of Ethics
  • Complete designated district technology proficiencies each year
