About The Position

The Lead CT Technologist acts as the main clinical and operational authority for the CT section in the Imaging Department. This role includes managing daily CT workflow, ensuring high-quality imaging, and promoting departmental efficiency and safety. They provide training, guidance, and continuous education for technologists preparing for their CT registry exams and for those already credentialed. Additionally, the Lead CT Technologist offers clinical instruction to students, supports protocols for pain management and patient comfort, and guarantees precise documentation, imaging records, and sufficient supply levels. The CT Tech/Radiology Tech is responsible for performing radiology and CT procedures and diagnostic evaluations of patients. S/he provides clinical instruction to students, follows pain management protocols, and maintains adequate records and supplies.

Requirements

  • Current ARRT certification (R)
  • Current NM State license
  • AHA BLS certification within 3 months of hire
  • One year Radiology experience required
  • Computer proficiency required

Nice To Haves

  • one year work experience in CT preferred, but not required.
  • One year CT Tech experience preferred
  • Willingness to cross train in other modalities highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the CT lead technologist by assisting other diagnostic radiologic techs, ensuring quality, and handling difficult situations as they arise.
  • Performs CT and Radiology procedures and diagnostic evaluations of patients, which include a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed exposure parameters for CT or Radiology procedures according to patient age, mental, and physical status.
  • Ensures PACS and Imaging quality assurance.
  • Assesses patient needs relevant to CT or Radiology procedures.
  • Stocks rooms with adequate supplies and maintain an orderly working area.
  • Maintains adequate records as directed to ensure safety, proper care of patients, and diagnostic quality of CT or Radiology examinations.
  • Maintains records and performs Quality Assurance/ Quality Control checks as needed.
  • Consistently uses radiation protection measures such as time, collimation, and shielding.
  • Follows hospital policy regarding pain management and use of restraints for patients.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of the PACS and MediTech systems.
  • Provides clinical instruction to students, and precepts new techs.
  • Provides the manager with input regarding service improvements and staff performance.
  • Provides the manager with data collection and shift reports as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Effectively operates and maintains the required equipment necessary to produce CT images.
  • Knowledge of CT equipment and various functions within the assigned area is demonstrated to ensure continuation of services to patients.
  • Takes extra care to ensure equipment is used, stored, and / or parked appropriately to avoid excessive damage, neglect, or abuse.
  • CT equipment inspection is conducted daily to ensure diagnostic quality of each procedure.
  • Equipment malfunctions and/or needed repairs are reported to the Medical Imaging Manager.
  • Follows established imaging protocols and ensures image quality standards are met.
  • Routine protocols and /or physician-specific directions for examinations are followed consistently.
  • Supporting demographics is utilized to ensure appropriate communication with radiologist regarding the relative patient positioning.
  • Images are verified as received by PACS.
  • Errors are promptly corrected or reported to Medical Imaging Manager.
  • Repeats are kept to a minimum and/or appointed to the Medical Imaging Manager.
  • Follows established Safety Standards to ensure safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.
  • Patient requisition is reviewed and verified for accurate demographics and clinical data to ensure correct procedure is performed.
  • Patient is identified in accordance with established hospital and radiology policies using two unique patient identifiers.
  • Ancillary equipment (suction, O2, monitoring devices, positioning aids) are replenished, repaired and/or replaced as necessary.
  • Knowledge of proper fire and safety procedures and evacuation plan is demonstrated.
  • Infection control standards are observed in assigned patient care areas.
  • Radiation protection policies are observed.
  • Radiation protection devices are implemented when deemed necessary.
  • Knowledge of proper use of Lift equipment.
  • Establishes ownership of clinical area by taking pride in appearance and readiness of exam rooms, equipment and supplies.
  • Completes supply check list as designated by Medical Imaging Manager.
  • Orders all supplies for the department, and trains other caregivers in the department how to order supplies and complete non-stock requisitions when indicated.
  • Takes steps necessary to ensure cleanliness and organization of work environment.
  • Expired items are promptly removed and replaced accordingly.
  • Demonstrates responsible use of supplies to reduce waste and maintain effective supply
  • Assists with PM on all equipment calling service when systems are down, let the respective departments in the hospital know of systems that are down, and changes schedules for departments having PM.
