The position involves acting as a resource person for questions or problems that arise within the CT Department. The individual will assist with the operation of the department, including secretarial and scheduling areas, ensuring effective daily operations and participating in the staffing process. Responsibilities include mentoring, training, and orienting employees on departmental procedures and operations, as well as clear communication with managers, staff, and customers. The role requires performing computed tomography scanning procedures, operating control consoles, selecting imaging techniques, and maintaining equipment. The individual will also be responsible for patient positioning, ensuring safety and comfort, and applying principles of radiographic protection. Additionally, the position involves maintaining knowledge of departmental policies, participating in professional development activities, and providing excellent service to patients and staff.

  • Acts as a resource person when questions or problems arise.
  • Assists with the operation of the CT Department, secretarial and scheduling areas ensuring effective daily department operations, and participate in the staffing process to ensure adequate staffing.
  • Mentors, trains and orients employees on procedures and operations of the department.
  • Communicates clearly to manager, staff, internal and external customers.
  • Attends monthly department staff meetings.
  • Performs computed tomography scanning procedures at a technical level requiring constant attention to technical detail, requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiologic diagnosis.
  • Operates control console for patient's scan.
  • Selects proper imaging techniques and protocols.
  • Operates various peripheral hardware and equipment.
  • Maintains, sets up and adjusts equipment, checking calibration and recalibrating as necessary.
  • Positions patient on examination table and adjusts immobilization devices as required to obtain optimum views of specified area of the body requested by physician.
  • Receives and reviews requests for radiologic studies and provides explanations of procedures to patients.
  • Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of patients during examinations and procedures.
  • Records all required information to provide permanent records of significant and/or functional anatomical or pathologic data obtained.
  • Applies principles of radiographic protection using beam restriction devices and patient shielding skills.
  • Coordinates work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency using and/or modifying established procedures.
  • Evaluates images for technical quality.
  • Maintains proficiency in PACS system and performs as a Super User.
  • Maintains adequate radiology records to assure proper identification.
  • Assists physician with administration of radiographic contrast media.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of departmental and Hospital policies and Procedures.
  • Participates in activities which promote professional self-growth and development.
  • Maintains an ethical relationship with patients, physicians, personnel and guests.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • High school graduate or GED.
  • Graduate of an American Medical Association (AMA) Accredited Radiography Program.
  • Registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Valid Massachusetts State License in Radiation Control.
  • Currently registered in Cat Scan (CT) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTBC) in Cat Scan (CT).
  • 3 years’ experience as a Radiologic Technologist OR 1 year experience as a Radiologic Technologist at CCH OR 1 year current (within the last 5 years) CT Tech experience.
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification required and must maintain certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and to work under pressure.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership, organizational, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to triage work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain harmonious and cooperative relations with fellow employees, medical staff, patients and guests.
