The Lead Criticality Safety Engineer provides technical nuclear safety support of existing SNM-1097 LWR fuel manufacturing operations at the Global Nuclear Fuel (GNF) facility in Wilmington NC. The position is responsible for performing Nuclear Criticality Safety Evaluations (NCSEs) required for ongoing LWR fuel manufacturing. The position will also support efforts to license, construct, and operate advanced nuclear fuel manufacturing facilities. In this role qualified candidates will utilize knowledge of nuclear safety principles and engineering to analyze process operations and implement effective nuclear safety controls. You will work closely with engineering, Integrated Safety Analysis (ISA) and operations staff to ensure the safe and compliant manufacturing of current LWR nuclear fuel and future HALEU advanced reactor fuel. The Lead Criticality Safety Engineer is responsible for evaluating credible criticality accident sequences, performing Monte Carlo code calculations, and documenting Nuclear Criticality Safety Evaluations (NCSEs) that demonstrate adequate margin of safety in accordance with SNM-1097 licensed program commitments. This role also reviews and approves proposed facility changes, performs audits of operations to ensure nuclear criticality safety controls are properly implemented. The role also participates on Integrated Safety Analysis (ISA) teams and supports ongoing criticality safety program improvements. The position will support existing nuclear fuel conversion, fabrication, and balance of plant operations at the Wilmington, NC campus. The position will also support planned future advanced HALEU fuel manufacturing design, analysis, and licensing projects.
