About The Position

As a Lead Installer on our Crane & Hoist team, you will guide a technician team in the safe, efficient installation of structural steel and overhead crane systems. This hands-on role includes reading blueprints, operating heavy equipment, and ensuring structural integrity through close collaboration with engineers and project managers. You will oversee the full project lifecycle, including planning, execution, safety compliance, and close-out, while ensuring work is completed on time and within budget. Your expertise supports customer compliance with OSHA, ASME, and manufacturer standards. Requirements

  • High School diploma required; Associates or higher degree in electronics, industrial maintenance, or related field work or experience is preferred.
  • Must pass drug and background checks to support all CIS & customer requirements.
  • Capable and comfortable working in new locations, with new people, every day
  • Ability & comfort working at heights is required.
  • Fabricating and non-structural welding skills are required.
  • Strong experience regarding equipment modifications including VFD retrofits, radio remote installs, motor & gear replacements, electrical retrofits, and hard bar to festoon conversions.
  • Experienced and comfortable working with primary modes of digital communication, data management, and documentation tools (MS Office, ERP & CRM systems, and work order and service dispatch systems)
  • Able to communicate clearly and concisely with CIS customers and associates.
  • Will be required to operate fork truck and mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPS).
  • Must maintain valid driver’s license and be able to drive company vehicle extended hours with few breaks up to eight hours a day and more if overtime is required.
  • Must have good verbal/written communication skills and understand basic math skills including converting measurements.
  • Able to communicate with customers and employees in a clear and concise manner.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the crane and hoisting industry is also preferred.
  • Experience troubleshooting and diagnosing electrical, mechanical, and electromechanical devices is preferred.
  • Experience with electrical control circuits for single and three phase power is preferred.
  • Mechanical gearing knowledge is preferred.
  • Motor repair experience is preferred.
  • VFD knowledge is desirable and preferred, but not required.

  • Able to recognize safety hazards related to specific jobs and tasks and proactively plan to eliminate or mitigate risks using the Hierarchy of Controls, in alignment with CIS and customer safety requirements.
  • Rigorously follow OSHA and internal safety protocols; exercise stop-work authority when unsafe conditions are present.
  • Lead site safety efforts and serve as the accountable person for safety and quality across all installation projects.
  • Develop and implement standard work to ensure consistent, efficient, and safest possible job execution.
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of crane and hoist installations—from pre-site planning and execution to post-site reporting—ensuring safety, timeliness, budget adherence, and quality.
  • Coordinate and lead large installation teams, including third-party vendors, ensuring alignment with customer and company standards.
  • Foster associate engagement and help build a positive team culture rooted in “The Carlton Way.”
  • Proven experience in multi-ton steel fabrication, structural assembly, and crane/hoist system installation per technical drawings and specifications.
  • Operate heavy equipment to position and assemble prefabricated units, verifying alignment with levels, lasers, and transits.
  • Possess deep knowledge of mechanical and electrical codes, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Perform functional testing, make adjustments, and troubleshoot systems for proper operation.
  • Experience in modifying and troubleshooting systems such as VFD retrofits, radio remote installations, gear and motor replacements, festoon conversions.
  • Strong working knowledge of single- and three-phase circuits, mechanical gearing; welding, machining.
  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation for job closures, inspections, and billing.
  • Train and mentor new associates as a subject matter expert in installation best practices.
  • Communicate effectively with branches and leadership to ensure alignment and share best practices.
  • Travel frequently, including overnight stays, to support projects at various job sites.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the team and company goals.
