About The Position

Position Summary: Under the direction of the Site Supervisor, the After School Lead Counselor is responsible for the overall day-to-day group programming, behavior management, and direct supervision of children or adolescents enrolled in the after school/day camp program. Essential Functions / Job Duties: Direct services include schedule, supervise, and lead efforts of the counselor(s) in assisting teachers with academic enrichment, recreation, and tutoring, and coordinating the transition of actively participating LEAP High students during the program. Lead the planning, scheduling of counselor(s) and ensure that counselor(s) performs optimally during the instruction of non-academic components. Provide initial quality assurance checks with attendance data. Ensure that documentation is collected from site personnel and submitted to the provider on a timely basis. Perform administrative duties including data entry and student attendance tracking and reporting. Distribute nutritious snacks/ supper on a daily basis using universal health/sanitation practices. Document or report behavior issues and/or incidents daily, as needed. Maintain high level of professional courtesy with parents, facility personnel, staff and clients at all times. Know and follow proper emergency procedures appropriate to the facility and in conformity with procedures adopted by the YMCA of South Florida and emergency service authorities to ensure the safety of children. Preserve the quality of supplies, equipment and materials. Ensuring proper supply by reporting re-order needs to the Site Supervisor. Document all necessary administrative forms as directed by Site Supervisor and/or Program Director. Attendance at all staff meetings and training opportunities. Formally report all incidents and accidents within 24 hours to the corporate office. Adhere to the Child Abuse & Neglect Reporting requirements, which mandate by law all childcare personnel to report suspicions of child abuse, neglect, or abandonment. The YMCA requires employees to follow the internal reporting procedures with the assistance of the Program Directors. Ensure that the proper staff-to-child ratios is maintained at all times and reports discrepancies to the Site Supervisor, as needed. Assist the Site Supervisor in any other appropriate ways as directed. Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 1 (one) year experience working with adolescent population.
  • Ability to relate to children and adolescents.
  • The Lead Counselor must be at least eighteen (18) years-old at the time of hire.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing.
  • Must have a demonstrated competency in the planning and implementation of recreational and educational activities.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certificates may be required by time of employment or within ninety (90) days from the date of hire.
