About The Position

The Farmer's Dog is looking for an experienced transactional attorney to join our fast-growing team as Senior Counsel, Commercial. This role is integral to our Legal Department, reporting to the Assistant General Counsel, and involves managing the company's day-to-day legal and compliance needs. The Senior Counsel, Commercial will work closely with stakeholders across the company to identify ways to mitigate risk and eliminate legal blockers, contributing to the company's momentum. This position requires a highly motivated individual with a passion for law and dogs.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an ABA accredited law school and admission to the NY bar.
  • 8+ years (post-law school) of relevant legal experience, with law firm experience required. Big Law and in-house experience preferred.
  • Excellent contract drafting and negotiation skills, spanning multiple disciplines.
  • Experience reviewing and advising on commercial contracts, particularly SaaS and vendor agreements.
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of the importance of working with stakeholders to weigh business risk against legal risk.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, prioritize effectively, and work both independently and as part of a growing team.
  • Willingness to be flexible and proactive in solving complex challenges.
  • Proficient with Google Suite; Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Adobe Acrobat.
  • A love for dogs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the direct-to-consumer, e-commerce, and/or pet space.
  • Experience with DPAs, other privacy-related matters and artificial intelligence.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a key member of The Farmer's Dog legal group, providing proactive and practical guidance to internal business stakeholders.
  • Act as a primary point of contact to internal stakeholders and external business partners for drafting, negotiating, finalizing and advising on a variety of agreements, including SaaS, vendor, technology, operations, product, social media and other commercial agreements.
  • Partner with other legal group members on the review of contracts, overseeing work and managing performance.
  • Work cross-functionally to develop and implement comprehensive legal strategies, policies, and procedures to manage and mitigate both business and legal risk.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable laws and regulations and the impact they have in our contracts, including helping internal stakeholders navigate rapidly changing areas such as privacy and new technologies.
  • Liaise with external counsel in a responsible and cost-effective way.
  • Contribute to the legal team's ongoing efforts to build, improve and operationalize internal processes, workflows, best practices, and commercial templates.
  • Provide support on other legal matters as needed.
