About The Position

In the dynamic landscape of the Engineering Services Department operations and regulatory compliance, the Lead Construction Inspector stands as a cornerstone in ensuring adherence to quality standards, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements. With a keen eye for detail and a profound understanding of construction-specific regulations and standards, the Lead Construction Inspector orchestrates inspection activities with precision and expertise. This role encompasses not only the meticulous examination of construction projects but also the strategic oversight and coordination of technical efforts to uphold the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Seven (7) years of experience in municipal infrastructure construction or other related fields
  • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
  • Proof of Automobile Liability Insurance

Nice To Haves

  • TCEQ Water Distribution Operator C, and/or Wastewater Collection Operator C, and water utilities operation experience

Responsibilities

  • Planning and organizing inspection schedules, allocating resources, and coordinating with relevant departments or teams to ensure timely and efficient inspections. This includes establishing priorities, setting objectives, and communicating inspections to stakeholders
  • Performing thorough inspections of facilities, equipment, products, or processes according to established standards and procedures. The Lead Construction Inspector evaluates compliance with regulatory requirements, safety protocols, and quality standards, utilizing appropriate inspection methods, tools, and equipment
  • Ensuring accurate documentation of inspection findings, including detailed reports, records, and corrective action plans. The Lead Construction Inspector verifies the completeness and accuracy of inspection data, maintains proper documentation systems, and collaborates with quality assurance teams to address non-conformities and improve processes
  • Providing guidance, training, and support to inspection personnel to enhance their skills, knowledge, and performance. The Lead Construction Inspector conducts training sessions, workshops, and on-the-job coaching to ensure consistency in inspection and promote continuous improvement
  • Identifying potential risks, hazards, and compliance issues through comprehensive risk assessments during inspections. The Lead Construction Inspector evaluates the severity and likelihood of risks, recommends corrective actions, and collaborates with relevant stakeholders to implement preventative measures and mitigate risk effectively
  • Serving as the primary liaison for internal and external stakeholders regarding inspection-related matters and stepping in for the Senior Project Manager during their absence. In this capacity, the Lead Construction Inspector takes charge of managing stakeholder communication, coordinating project activities, and making decisions on behalf of the Senior Project Manager as required. Acting as a conduit between inspection teams, management, clients, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders, the Lead Construction Inspector ensures seamless communication, collaboration, and alignment of objectives. When the Senior Project Manager is unavailable, the Lead Construction Inspector assumes leadership duties, ensuring uninterrupted project operations and maintaining productive engagement with stakeholders
