About The Position

The Configuration Management Lead at EMCORE is responsible for overseeing the identification and control of hardware and software configuration items. This includes maintaining engineering specifications and technical documentation, coordinating across business units to develop unified configuration management plans, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. This position can be located in either our Budd Lake NJ site or our Tinley Park, Illinois site.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of configuration management experience with hardware and software systems.
  • Proven project management capabilities across the full product lifecycle.
  • Experience with PLM systems such as Windchill, ProductCenter, and Bitbucket.
  • Familiarity with MRP and ERP systems including Syteline.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in mechanical tools: AutoCAD, CREO (PTC), SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
  • Familiarity with electrical tools: Xilinx, PolarFire hardware tools, FPGA and DSP software.
  • Experience with software tools: Jira, Artifactory, Jenkins, CI/CD automation.
  • Knowledge of quality systems, such as TIPQA or similar platforms.
  • Background in aerospace or defense industries and understanding of military/industry CM and documentation standards and requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update software and hardware configuration documentation including all CAD drawings (2D and 3D), models and simulations.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations related to configuration management (OPSEC and ITAR regulations as related to each data item).
  • Develop and implement common processes for configuration management across the business units.
  • Review, approve, and control changes to product configurations.
  • Validate software configuration by performing builds and comparing checksums.
  • Identify and resolve configuration issues and conflicts.
  • Manage the release and deployment of software and hardware changes.
  • Process engineering change requests (ECRs), government engineering change proposals (ECPs), deviations, and waivers.
  • Ensure proper version control and status accounting for all technical data.
  • Provide guidance and training on configuration management (CM) policies and tools.
  • Conduct regular audits and generate reports on CM activities.
  • Maintain compliance with product record retention policies.
  • Establish Agile workflows and secure stakeholder approvals for changes.
  • Continuously improve configuration management processes to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Assign and manage drawing/document/part numbers using established control systems.
  • Through Windchill, manage and maintain approved vendor/manufacturer part number database.
  • Validate engineering documentation against specifications and contract requirements.
  • Manage release repositories and maintain the current bill of materials for each product.
  • Lead Change Control Board (CCB) meetings and assess the impact of changes.
  • Review Request for Proposals (RFP) and Statements of Work (SOW) for special CM requirements.
  • Support customer baseline requirements and release schedules.
  • Provide data items to engineering, sales, operations, and finance teams as requested.
  • Perform job tasks utilizing material requirements planning (MRP) applications, enterprise resource planning (ERP) applications (Syteline), and product lifecycle management (PLM) tools (Windchill, ProductCenter) effectively.
  • Support formal and informal configuration audits and documentation traceability.
  • Manage software licenses and renewals; ensure team access to tools.
  • Administer CM tools (Windchill, ProductCenter, Syteline, Jira) and assist with tool consolidation efforts (example: ProductCenter to Windchill).
