About The Position

The Lead Pharmacist – Non-Sterile 503A Compounding will directly manage the day-to-day operations of non-sterile compounding in accordance with USP <795> <800> and other applicable state and federal laws and regulations. This role is critical in maintaining compliance, ensuring quality, and supporting operational excellence in a high-volume, patient-centric environment. You will serve as a subject matter expert in non-sterile compounding and collaborate closely with quality, operations, and pharmacy leadership to drive success. This role will report into the Head Compounding Pharmacist.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a 503A pharmacy setting.
  • Experience with regulatory inspections (e.g., State Board, FDA, NABP).
  • Familiarity with non-sterile dosage forms such as capsules, creams, suspensions, lozenges, and troches.
  • Comfort working with hazardous drugs, following USP <800> precautions when applicable.
  • Experience partnering with cross-functional teams on product innovation or pharmacy process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Directly manage day to day activities of non-sterile compounding pharmacists and responsible for patient-specific non-sterile compounding activities to maintain compliance with Good Compounding Practices (GCP) and internal SOPs for safe, effective, and high-quality compounded medications.
  • Provide training, support, and leadership to compounding pharmacists and support personnel engaged in weighing, mixing, tableting, liquids, and all other functions related to the compounding and verification process..
  • Ensure proper documentation and execution of compounding procedures, equipment calibration, quality control checks, and cleaning logs.
  • Ability to be immersed in the daily operation of the pharmacy..
  • Work collaboratively with the Head Compounding Pharmacist (HCP) and other stakeholders to manage workflow, team productivity, and quality expectations.
  • Participate in investigations, CAPAs, and audits (internal and external), ensuring readiness for regulatory inspections.
  • Monitor and enforce safety procedures, including the proper handling of hazardous drugs (as applicable) and adherence to PPE requirements.
  • Lead and coach pharmacist personnel, including onboarding, ongoing performance feedback, and development.
  • Be a strong cross-functional partner across operations, quality, and compliance teams.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and workflow enhancements within the pharmacy.
  • Ensure all required pharmacist checks are accomplished daily and remediation plans for failures are executed.
  • Ensure a clean and compliant compounding environment in accordance with all applicable rules and regulations.
  • In conjunction with the HCP, Creates project plans for the rollout and execution of new compounding initiatives.
  • Maintain study protocols and data relevant to compounded non-sterile products
  • Understand Pharmacy Standards of Practice
  • In conjunction with the HCP, act as the primary resource for all Research and Development activities requiring support from a pharmacist
  • Support the HCP on activities related to the development of operational plans for implementation of new SKUs
  • Liaison with Research and Development to develop all aspects required for new SKUs from concept to operational go live and continued monitoring
  • Develop the abilities of pharmacist team, and educate designated Research and Development licensed staff (technicians, pharmacist, interns) direct reports on, safety parameters and required operations related to Research and Development in their absence
