About The Position

The Lead Commercial Banking Portfolio Manager at Wells Fargo's Technology Banking Group (TBG) is responsible for managing a credit portfolio for commercial banking clients, particularly those in the technology sector. This role involves underwriting, documentation, and ongoing monitoring of loans, while ensuring compliance with credit policies. The Lead Portfolio Manager will also engage with clients to understand their credit needs, provide recommendations based on financial analysis, and mentor junior team members.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of Commercial, Corporate or Investment Banking experience, or equivalent demonstrated through work experience, training, military experience, or education.
  • Complex C&I or Specialized Industries credit underwriting experience.
  • Understanding of commercial banking segments, technology, venture capital, and risks for companies within the Technology industry.
  • Experience negotiating credit agreement terms including deal size, price, covenants, and collateral requirements.
  • Knowledge of commercial and specialty group banking products and services.
  • Strong understanding of commercial banking credit policies, loan servicing, risk management, and group underwriting requirements.
  • Experience working in nCino.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Effective organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills.
  • BS/BA degree or higher (preferably major in Finance/Accounting).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in technology banking or with VC-backed companies.
  • Familiarity with financial modeling and credit risk assessment tools.

Responsibilities

  • Actively manage, maintain, and grow a loan portfolio, including underwriting, origination, documentation, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Work with clients and prospects to understand complex credit needs and represent the bank in developing and maintaining client relationships.
  • Provide recommendations and write credit reports based on analysis of financial performance and risk assessment.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements within the scope of responsibilities.
  • Collaborate and consult with relationship managers, senior management, internal partners, and external partners.
  • Train and mentor analysts and junior portfolio managers.
  • Independently lead or resolve complex initiatives and guide the team to meet deliverables.
