About The Position

At NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, Laboratory Technologists are redefining the limits of science and medicine. We study some of the most complex and rarely seen medical conditions - with unmatched energy and expertise. The Lead Technologist operates as a content expert and high functioning lab technologist within the Cytogenetics team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in karyotyping complex oncology cases and proficiency with ISCN nomenclature. Take advantage of this great advancement opportunity for an experienced Laboratory Technologist! Oversees or participates in the technical operations including QA/QC checks, system maintenance issues, accuracy of test results, and general sample troubleshooting. Oversees laboratory staff in the performance of qualitative and quantitative test procedures. Acts as reference source for technologists in the correlation of test data. Implements solutions to problems in processing and delivering highly accurate patient data. Participates in QA/QC concerns, which relate to result data delivery and patient care. Oversees issues relating to laboratory workflow and productivity. Tracks and responds to questions relating to testing procedures and results. Participates in the orientation, training and competency assessment of staff. Provide staff supervisory coverage as needed. This role works Monday - Friday on the day shift. Location is our Weill Cornell campus on Manhattan's Upper East Side.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or related science
  • New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist licensure from the New York Education department
  • 4 years experience as a Laboratory Technologist (or 2 years experience with a Master's degree)
  • Knowledge of laboratory policies and procedures
  • Strong communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Possess extensive knowledge and experience of FISH and Oncology Cytogenetics
  • ASCP certification
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with laboratory regulations and/or CAP inspections
