About The Position

Provides high level, complex support to the clinical laboratory assistants, phlebotomy, and non-phlebotomy roles. Responsible for knowing the Laboratory goals and interests and provides and/or coordinates functions involved with quality improvement processes, programs, and services. Demonstrates knowledge with proven track record of minimal errors; acts as a mentor, preceptor, and trainer to lead respective team to higher level of performance. Fulfills all the job functions and responsibilities of the Clinical Lab Assistant I and II within designated department.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent or applicable course work to be applied to obtain required WA State Medical Assistant-Phlebotomy (MA-P)- Certification.
  • 3 years of experience working in a clinical laboratory role
  • Previous supervisory, leadership or lead experience.
  • Certification from an approved laboratory-training program with successful completion of a required internship preferred, or relevant work experience
  • Washington Medical Assistant-Phlebotomy (MA-P) upon hire
  • Medical terminology

Nice To Haves

  • Previous training and competence in dealing with unique needs in the range of customer service situations with clinicians and their office staff.
  • Working knowledge of the various government regulations specifically Medicare and the Washington state medical Test Site regulations.
  • Working knowledge of the College of American Pathologists (ASCP) and the Joint Commission (TJC) inspection criteria
  • Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist (MP-A) state certification

Responsibilities

  • Performs venipuncture and capillary puncture blood sample collections on patients of all age groups.
  • Accurately identifies and labels all specimens following established laboratory protocol.
  • Uses the laboratory information system and other reference laboratory’s web-based applications to independently solve complex issues in a sensitive, caring, and timely manner.
  • Process all specimens in accordance with laboratory protocol including the proper handling, centrifugation, storage, packaging, and transport.
  • Responsible for collecting all insurance/financial information necessary for proper billing.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of requirements for collecting ABN’s and filling out MSPQ information.
  • Accurately enters orders and patient demographic information in the laboratory information system.
  • Answer and navigate calls with accuracy, efficiency, and courtesy using the best customer service tactics and practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
