About The Position

Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Lead Civil Engineer. The location for this role is Freeport, TX. This role will provide specialized technical support and solutions for project teams (facility and site), operations and maintenance. The Lead Civil Engineer supports both projects and technical support teams as a technical expert recognized as a “go to” person within the facility/site teams for Civil expertise and the civil lead on projects. Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience and works independently, receiving minimal guidance. In the technical expert capacity, at this level, is primarily involved in application of technology. Resolves problems which are complex. Leads technical problem solving within a specific technology area to deliver value for Diamond. Participates on facility/site teams as the civil expertise. In the project lead capacity, has an excellent understanding and applies GPM, MET, the civil/structural discipline work process and associated best practices to deliver safe, cost effective and efficient solutions that meet the goals/plans for projects.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • 6+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • PE required or obtainable within 2 years of accepting the role

  • Ability to work comfortably and safely at elevated heights.
  • Candidates must be familiar with, or willing to undergo training in, the proper usage and maintenance of safety equipment to ensure safe movement and operations at heights.
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Provides Civil/Structural Engineering expertise including: Structural steel analysis for existing structures and designing new pipe racks/pipe bridges.
  • Leads efforts in defining and implementing technology strategy and held accountable for strategy implementation
  • Deep and shallow foundation design (concrete pilings/supports
  • Interpretation of geotechnical data (foundation design, excavations, shoring, etc.)
  • Developing assessment/repair strategies for ground stability/soil erosion
  • Creating job design packages for new projects
  • Reviews 3rd party road bridge evaluation reports
  • Structural Analysis of existing road bridges for load ratings
  • Design of new in-plant road bridges and culvert bridges
  • Design of both rigid and flexible pavement for in-plant roads
  • Hydraulic and hydrology design for small watersheds
  • Serves as facility/site focal point, providing timely technical reviews and input to complex designs and/or variances from MET both on projects and in support of maintenance/operations.
  • Serves as the leader of the project within their discipline.
  • Has accountability for project results and for the implementation of and adherence to all relevant work processes and best practices.
  • Drives front end loading to ensure clear scope definition along with establishing schedules to enable adequate control during execution.
  • Directs activities within the discipline and coordinates activities with other disciplines.
  • Leads the completion of deliverables needed for cost estimates and reviews output of the estimate to ensure accurate reflection of scope.
  • Ensures deliverables meet the needs of the project: function as intended, on time and within budget.
  • Leads technical contract package development and supports implementation.
  • Drives value engineering and economic designs to ensure the best value is delivered to the business
  • Uses and enforces project change management program.
  • Ensures safety in design.
  • Provides civil engineering expertise for the Site Development Tactical Team including civil SME for new 3rd party capital projects and 3rd party alteration requests
  • Acts as site liaison for the local drainage district (permitting and federal hurricane protection levee correspondence) and the US Army Corp of Engineers (Section 408 permits)
  • Acts as the Reservoir Engineer (PE required) for modifications/repairs to the levees around the reservoirs owned by the company
