About The Position
As a Lead Phlebotomist with the Santa Monica Hospital Laboratory, your duties include assessing overall workload for any area that needs help, ensuring work is performed properly and in a timely manner, and that all benches are covered by competent staff. You will perform advanced level pre-analytical and post-analytical activities and specimen processing duties, troubleshoot specimen/test order problems, and Total Lab Automation line issues. Additionally, you will perform preventive maintenance of equipment, monitor inventory of pre-analytical supplies, and demonstrate effective communication with team members, patients, internal and external laboratory customers and partners. Your responsibilities will also include performing phlebotomy on inpatients and outpatients, including neonatal/pediatric patients, triaging all lab samples and requests after verification of appropriate information, entering and verifying patient and test info into the computer, generating computer labels for specimens, preparing samples for transport to referral labs, documenting draws, added tests, and cancelled/rejected specimens, and assisting with training in phlebotomy and/or specimen processing.
