About The Position

Care for our community, and your career. This role has co-responsibility with the Pharmacy Assistant Supervisor for compliance with medication management standards. This includes but is not limited to management of Look Alike Sound Alike Drugs, High-Alert and Hazardous Medication handling, proper storage of medications, completion of monthly medication inspection audits, outdates and proper tracking of max carts and airway trays. In addition, this includes monitoring cleaning of the IV rooms, proper reconciliation and charging of medication discrepancies, m-pharming of outdates, ensuring proper utilization of reports for things such as patient discharges and transfers, in addition to ensuring the overall workflow of pharmacy assistants is smooth and fair on a day-to-day basis. This includes ensuring proper documentation of daily duties as well. Excellent communication is essential between the Lead Assistant, the Pharmacy Assistant Supervisor, the scheduler, the buyers, the pharmacy assistant workforce, department secretary, and the Director of Pharmacy.

Requirements

  • The Pharmacy Assistant Supervisor must be a Certified Pharmacy technician (or must obtain certification within 3 months of hire), and must have knowledge of all Pharmacy assistant roles and responsibilities, and should strive for advanced certification within one year of taking this position.

Responsibilities

  • Attend and conduct daily huddles in the Supervisors absence
  • Train pharmacy assistants (and students), providing feedback on progress or areas of need
  • Knowledge of NYS Pharmacy Law
  • Contributes to policy changes, goal setting and performance improvement initiatives
  • Communicate process changes and issues with other relevant departments, or healthcare professionals when required
  • May serve/participate in committees upon invite
  • Complete projects assigned by Pharmacy Assistant Supervisor or Pharmacy Director
  • Keep on top of phone and e-mail inquiries
  • Perform data analysis when needed
  • Complete education on new procedures/technology
  • Fills orders, medication carts, or stock requisitions when needed
  • Answers telephone and directs call to appropriate personnel
  • Maintains logs, records and other required documentation, files documentation in the appropriate location
  • Assist with inventory control including checking stock for expiration dates and participating in medication area audits
  • Update pharmacy assistants regularly on regulations and changes in policy/procedures
  • Operates unit dose packaging and other equipment used in Pharmacy
  • Enters charges and credits for patient medications
  • Assist and help the buyers coordinate recall management, outdates, and drug shortages
  • Assists in management of Versatrak system
