POSITION SUMMARY: Under direct supervision of the CT Manager, the CT Technologist utilizes computerized tomography scanners to produce cross-sectional images of patient's internal organs and tissues for diagnostic purposes. As a CT Technologist at BMC, you will gain a wide range of experience using cutting-edge technology, while working with a great team of people to help further BMC’s mission of providing exceptional care for all. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: The CAT scan department at BMC is a full service, academic medical imaging department for both adult and pediatric patients. By utilizing the most sophisticated medical imaging technology, our team of licensed technologists ensures that we deliver on our mission of delivering exceptional and equitable care to all.

Requirements

• Must be a graduate of an approved school of Radiologic Technology
• Must be ARRT registered in Radiologic Technology, CT Speciality required or obtained within one year of employment
• BLS or CPR required
• IV Certification required

Responsibilities

• Operates a CT (computed tomography) scanner to perform technologist duties as required and necessary for proper departmental work flow.
• Performs appropriate studies, to patients of all ages, as determined through policy and procedure.
• Follows requisition in terms of providing proper study for patients.
• Ensures that exam requisition matches patient identification, condition and/or history and calls or asks the appropriate persons for more information as necessary to perform the proper study.
• Prepares patient for exams as required and insures patient comfort and modesty at all times.
• Accommodates patient needs and staffing needs through flexibility in scheduling and timeliness of studies.
• Monitors patient‘s conditions and if it is determined assistance may be required, the employee takes action to facilitate the best course of care to include: nurse involvement, further monitoring and/or other patient focused solutions.
• Sets up equipment as necessary and uses proper imaging techniques.
• Adjusts imaging factors when necessary to improve study or quality factors.
• Works through radiologist’s requirements to provide appropriate images and provides additional views and variations of techniques as requested.
• Completes procedures in timely fashion while providing quality images for Radiology and outside departments.
• Completes work by the end of the shift or communicates with coworkers about work needing completion.
• Performs patient focused customer service and ensures the following standards are met appropriately and achieved.
• Communicates patient complaints professionally to the appropriate supervisor.
• Keeps discussions around patients to a minimum and ensures that patients are not subjected to departmental conversations and/or any inappropriate behavior.
• Handles telephone calls and requests for services both professionally and appropriately.
• Treats patients and fellow staff with dignity and respect and reports any/all problems to the supervisor.
• Ensures that all required documentation is properly completed for billing purposes to include (but not necessarily limited to) electronic orders and paperwork related to all procedures performed.
• Understands and adheres to managed care guidelines to ensure proper recording for billing of Radiology procedures.
