This role assists with the execution of department operations and work. It involves operating a cash register, processing and bagging customer orders, and performing carry-outs. The Lead Cashier is responsible for till reconciliation and bank deposits, provides exceptional customer service, and contributes to a positive and collaborative team environment.

Requirements

  • Must complete and maintain any required alcohol selling, food and work safety trainings/certifications.
  • Engages the customer in a friendly manner by seeking opportunities to exceed customer expectations and enhance the customer experience.

  • Entry level to high level proficiency with MS Office.
  • Working knowledge with POS, inventory or other retail specific software.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous customer service, food service, retail or grocery experience.
  • Knowledge of retail Front End Departments/Lead Cashier experience.
  • Previous supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Guides the work of department staff, including prioritizing and assigning work, training staff, and ensuring quality standards are met and tasks are completed.
  • Runs line chart ensuring that all department staff receive breaks and lunches.
  • Adapts approach for different learning styles among staff.
  • Supports daily department communication among staff, including updated produce codes, changes to processes, and any other information pertaining to department operations.
  • Operates self-checkout or Point of Sale (POS) unit; cashiers, and bags customer purchases; performs carry-outs as needed.
  • May be assigned to train new staff on registers and self-checkout.
  • Troubleshoots transaction and equipment issues on registers and self-checkout.
  • Partners with management to maintain excellent department conditions, including appearance, cleanliness, signage, staffing and service levels.
  • Includes general upkeep and ongoing maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment.
  • Ensures consistent service levels in department and calls for back-up as needed.
  • Ensures department follows cash handling and register, POS or self-checkout operations.
  • Processes returns per policy and assists cashiers with complex returns.
  • Maintains adequate supply of cash.
  • Sells change as needed throughout the day.
  • Maintains FE bank per department guidelines.
  • Prepares daily bank deposits and cash/coin order with accuracy.
  • Performs tasks associated with period end, including safe audit and other money-handling tasks as assigned.
  • Ensures department complies with alcohol sales regulations.
  • Follows company procedures for processing invoices, transfers and credits.
  • Assists with the maintenance of FE Resource Guide to ensure cashier accuracy.
  • Maintains awareness of current ads, promotions, holidays and events.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.
