About The Position

The Lead Career Navigator position is a specialized role focused on providing case management and counseling services as part of the Project Anchor grant between Tallahassee Community College and the Department of Juvenile Justice. This role involves overseeing other career navigators, developing training programs, and ensuring the successful engagement and support of youth in their educational and career pathways.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in counseling, education or a related area from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of related experience; or a master's degree in counseling, education or a related area from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of distance learning environment.
  • Knowledge of best practices in academic advising, student development, and retention.
  • Knowledge of college policy and procedures.
  • Knowledge of college degree programs, services, and student development theory.
  • Knowledge of student privacy rights and handling confidential information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Skilled in the use of personal computers and electronic mail for educational purposes.
  • Skilled in the use of appropriate software applications such as Blackboard, PowerPoint, and Camtasia.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Skilled in giving attention to detail and follow-through.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Workday software.
  • Familiarity with social media tools including social networking, Blogs, Wikis, video sharing, and Skype.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction and delegation of tasks among other career navigators.
  • Develop and execute staff training in alignment with the service model.
  • Facilitate and lead meetings as required.
  • Create strategies for troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Develop and implement a quality assurance for the unit that is measurable.
  • Provide oversight of reports/documents/communication prior to submission to Project Anchor Director or external partners.
  • Provide comprehensive support and detailed information about Project Anchor to youth's parents, the general public, and staff via various communication methods.
  • Maintain an ongoing awareness of available youth resources that can be shared with project partners.
  • Conduct required follow-ups with assigned caseload.
  • Maintain a cumulative activity report.
  • Review and process referrals and other documents related to program youth.
  • Assist with the registration process and respond to inquiries about admittance into a post-secondary institution.
  • Process changes in Workday.
  • Work closely with Instructors and other program staff to ensure student success.
  • Work with the student to determine program tracks.
  • Review documents for accuracy and make referrals.
  • Schedule and coordinate with program partners and provide community resources to ensure student success and pathway to work-based learning or post-secondary education.
  • Educate students on options and provide guidance and advisement.
  • Develop and maintain a relationship with assigned youth to ensure engagement and progress.
  • Develop a tailored success plan for each assigned youth.
  • Work with the youth to identify the documentation required for enrollment into a post-secondary institution.
  • Proactively work with securing work-based learning opportunities once they have transitioned from an institution.
  • Coordinate services to youth in a comprehensive manner and maintain the required database to maintain data.
  • Assist in the development of automated communications with students.
  • Communicate and resolve process issues with enrollment and admissions coordination.
  • Serve as liaison to external stakeholders including educational partners and WIOA partners.
  • Advise students about academic requirements and assist with online college credit options and dual enrollment registration.
