About The Position

Supervise campers to ensure participation in daily activities and adherence to the schedule. Plan and lead small and large group activities, address behavior issues, and maintain a safe, clean, and organized camp environment. Keep accurate program records, follow all safety and emergency procedures, and provide high-quality outdoor educational and recreational experiences that highlight Native American traditions and practices. Serve as an overnight counselor as scheduled.

Requirements

  • Must meet minimum requirements of the position, complete a background check, and pass drug test to include testing for marijuana.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Two () years of experience working with youth or previously a lead counselor for KëGbéshmen.
  • Upon hire, completion of provided First Aid and CPR certification, required.
  • Education classes or experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field.
  • Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities which include, but are not limited to, hiking, canoeing, swimming, team building activities, building campfires, physical games, and activities.
  • Must have the ability to physically support children when needed for safety in general camp activities.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure campers follow the daily schedule, attend all activities, and actively participate in camp programs.
  • Organize and lead a variety of small and large group activities during downtime or as requested by essential camp staff. Activities may include crafts, nature, songs, games, opening and closing ceremonies, swimming, archery, canoeing, etc.
  • Identify and respond to camper behavior issues.
  • Ensure that the site is kept clean, organized, and free of litter daily.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate program records. Including incident reports, and daily attendance records.
  • Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the program.
  • Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and all program areas. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for your campers’ safety and their whereabouts at all times.
  • Provide high quality outdoor educational and recreational experiences for participants that focus on Native American traditions and practices.
  • Work as overnight counselor, as scheduled.
  • Perform other related functions as assigned.
