About The Position

Concord Recreation is seeking Lead Counselors for Summer Camp 2026. Lead Counselors must love and embrace not only the camp environment but also the camp philosophy that campers come first, we work as a team, and summer is a time to play, learn, and grow. Lead Counselors guide children through their daily activity schedule while encouraging and empowering them to participate in activities such as sports, music, art, swimming, and more. Lead Counselors oversee the administrative aspects of group management including rosters, child specific plans, morning and afternoon meetings, lost and found, and child specific documentation. Lead counselors also take on an active role in mentoring and coaching the co-staff within their groups. While Lead Counselors do not directly supervise their co-staff, they are responsible for resolving disputes, implementing clear goals and effective protocols for the camper group, and supporting the development of their co-staff. The person in this position should feel confident in their abilities to manage camper behavior, navigate interpersonal conflicts with other staff, and assertively direct their group throughout the entirety of the camp day.

Requirements

  • An eagerness to receive feedback and willingness to develop leadership skills.
  • A tremendous work ethic.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as take action as needed.
  • Confidence and positive presence in both group and one-on-one settings.
  • Minimum two years of high school education; candidates pursuing a college degree in recreation, education, or related fields preferred.
  • Must be 16 years of age or older (work permit needed if under 18).
  • CPR and first aid certified (certification available during staff training).
  • Available to work for the entire summer and be available for staff training, preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience participating in or working at a summer program or camp, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee a group of campers grades K-6 with and without disabilities, in an outdoor day camp setting.
  • Responsible for managing specific administrative tasks including inclusion documentation, group attendance, group schedule, etc.
  • Consistently communicate with counselors, directors, specialists, nurse and parents regarding camper’s daily experiences.
  • Participate in all camp activities with camp group including swimming, sports, art, science, music, free time, and field trips.
  • Implements and adheres to the behavioral management plans for campers; attends parent/director meetings and carries out relevant protocols to ensure a safe camp environment for all.
  • Communicate effectively and frequently with the Camp Director or Assistant Director giving ample updates and reports on urgent camp concerns: camp behavior, safety, staff concerns, program elements etc.
  • Assure camp group stays on schedule, is organized, and respectful of camp policies and rules.
  • Build relationship with campers to foster friendly, supportive and nurturing group dynamics.
  • Develop rapport and effective consistent communication with parents and families.
  • Other tasks as requested by the Camp Director or Recreation staff.
