About The Position

Under the supervision of the Senior Program Director and Summer Camp coordinators, a Lead Camp Counselor provides direction for the program and classroom, and implements program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring, while putting the quality and safety of our program at the upmost of importance. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Operates in ratio of age group assigned and fulfills all of the responsibilities of a counselor plus: Leading Rides in &/or Rides out if coordinator is pulled from that duty. Leading swim lessons for non-swimmers during swim times (assistance given when needed based on ratios). Helps lead weekly camp meetings and trainings. Helps plan components of camp Is a role model for Y policies and practices. Helps perform specific duties on field trips such as bus head counts, checking the field trip in with the destination, carrying camper medication and others as needed Other duties as needed and assigned by Camp Coordinators and Senior Program Director. Requirements

  • Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities.
  • Run, jump, lift, carry, push, as well as any other physical actions that are needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
