About The Position

As the Lead Calibration Specialist, you will oversee the optimal operation, maintenance, and calibration of facility instrumentation and measurement systems supporting GMP manufacturing of Radiopharmaceuticals at the Indianapolis site. Your role involves leading first-line response and troubleshooting for all process & non-process instrumentation and calibration equipment. You will also lead calibration planning, scheduling, and execution for both new and existing equipment, including developing calibration protocols, maintaining calibration records, and verifying compliance with GMP, EHS, and NRC standards. You will manage and supervise contract service providers responsible for calibration activities, ensuring their adherence to regulatory and internal standards. This includes inspecting their work, ensuring compliance, and handling the appropriate documentation for the CMMS and other GMP systems. In addition, you may assist with the commissioning, qualification, and validation of new instrumentation and measurement equipment. You will also support the maintenance of GMP manufacturing equipment, maintain accurate calibration logs and spare parts inventory within the CMMS, and assist with waste management and removal processes regarding calibration and instrument waste.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a BS degree in Engineering, Instrumentation, Metrology, or a related science that involved design and understanding of measurement and calibration systems or 8+ years experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in calibration or instrumentation engineering.
  • Highly motivated and organized professional able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, calibration certificates, schematics, and manuals for complex instrumentation is required.
  • Strong attention to detail is required.
  • Very personable with strong communication skills.
  • Excellent professional ethics, integrity, and ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Position will be expected to provide on-call support or respond to emergencies after hours in rare cases that critical equipment or alarmed/monitored systems require attention.
  • Ability to audit the site to applicable calibration standards such as ISO/IEC 17025, NIST guidelines, and other relevant documents.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a regulated industry such as radiopharmaceuticals, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, healthcare, or medical device manufacturing is highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of building automation or building management systems (BAS/BMS) is ideal.
  • Previous experience in mapping instrumentation or calibration requirements for large facilities and installation of new measurement systems is highly desirable.
  • Calibration Technician or Metrology Certification (e.g., ASQ CCT, CMT) is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine inspections, maintenance, and calibration of a variety of facility systems and equipment, including HVAC sensors, pressure gauges, temperature transmitters, analytical instruments, backup generators, UPS, and other utilities.
  • Lead process improvements within the calibration program
  • Ensure all calibrated systems and instruments meet applicable NIST, ISO, and site-specific requirements.
  • Escalate complex or high-priority calibration issues to appropriate vendors, warranty programs, or contract service providers to facilitate prompt and effective resolution.
  • Create a site-wide master calibration plan including scheduled calibration intervals, verification procedures, and recommendations for lifecycle management of critical assets.
  • Assist with planning of annual shutdowns to ensure calibration PMs align with the overall plan and do not impact restart of equipment or release of rooms.
