About The Position

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Lead Building Engineer to oversee the daily operation, maintenance, and long-term performance of a major commercial facility in the downtown Milwaukee area. This role requires a hands-on professional with strong technical expertise, problem-solving ability, and a proactive leadership style. The ideal candidate has a minimum of five years of experience in building maintenance—including three years in a senior or lead role—and a strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. This position is responsible for ensuring high standards of building operations while supporting a team-oriented, service-focused environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years of building maintenance experience
  • At least 3 years in a senior, lead, or supervisory role preferred
  • Proficiency with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
  • Comfortable using technology for work order management and communication
  • Strong manual dexterity and problem-solving capabilities
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs, work outdoors, and stand for extended periods
  • Willingness to work overtime and participate in on-call rotation

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and support building engineering staff and maintenance personnel
  • Coordinate daily work assignments, preventive maintenance schedules, and service requests
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, operational procedures, and company best practices
  • Partner with property management on capital planning, vendor coordination, and tenant needs
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain building systems and critical equipment
  • Service pumps, valves, pneumatic controls, HVAC systems, electrical components, and hydraulic devices
  • Assist with installation, modification, and optimization of building equipment
  • Inspect building interior, exterior, and grounds for safety risks and preventive maintenance requirements
  • Maintain and operate fire and life safety systems, including alarms and suppression equipment
  • Replace and repair building finishes such as ceiling tiles, door hardware, and paint
  • Identify improvement opportunities and recommend system upgrades or cost-saving measures
  • Safely operate all tools, vehicles, and equipment used in facility maintenance
  • Use smartphones, tablets, computers, and building automation systems for work orders and reporting
  • Maintain accurate logs, equipment histories, and compliance documentation
  • Respond promptly to emergency situations and after-hours calls as part of on-call rotation
