Charles Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21201 Main Purpose of Job The main purpose of this position is to access general compliance, research, mediate, and resolve complaints filed with the Board of Barbers and the Board of Cosmetologists; to initiate and support administrative and/or criminal proceedings; to educate and provide detailed information to licensees and consumers regarding the established laws and regulations of both Boards. POSITION DUTIES Duties of this position include but are not limited to: Assesses compliance and investigates complaints using interviewing and observational skills. Maintains knowledge of the licensing agency regulations. Discusses and determines appropriate action to resolve violations and compliance issues . Inspects barbershops and salons to assess compliance, verifies operational permits, investigates consumer complaints, and conducts various required inspections within the state of Maryland. Consults with administrative staff and regulatory code agencies to determine violations. Generates detailed, factual and well written reports based on inspection findings and occasionally presents findings to the respective Board or at hearings. Provides training, coaching, and mentoring to inspectors, ensuring uniform application of Board regulations and procedures. Answers shop-related telephone and email inquiries providing accurate and timely information, assists walk-in customers and provides general and appropriate information for consumers to address their needs and concerns. Assists with processing new shop applications and assists with processing complaints providing backup support when needed. Reviews and verifies inspector expense vouchers, including mileage and supporting details, before final approval. Ensures accuracy and compliance with Department policies before submission for final sign-off.
