About The Position

This position assists in hiring and supervises all behavior coaches at Murrell Special Day Treatment School. The Behavior Coach serves all students, who are under the Exceptional Education umbrella and are covered under an Individual Educational Plan (IEP). These students have severe emotional and behavioral problems that have affected their ability to be maintained in a mainstream school setting. Behavior Coaches work in the classroom setting alongside Metro school staff to develop behavioral interventions and incentives, assist in crisis, and work to assist in the success of each student. This position requires a collaborative approach with school staff and a teamwork attitude. We are seeking applicants with a strong work ethic and a professional attitude that have a passion for working with children and youth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mental Health, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Criminal Justice or other related behavior health field required.
  • Two years' experience working with children and teens on mental health issues is required.
  • Must be certified in Satori Alternatives to Managing Aggression (SAMA) within the first 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the daily work of all behavior coaches contracted at Murrell Special Day Treatment school, including all levels of accountability and following Just Culture Algorithm.
  • Assists in training all behavior coaches, implements training of new staff and ongoing training as necessary.
  • Provides social-emotional learning in special day treatment classrooms K-7th grade.
  • Intervenes with students and clients at school during mental health crises, communicating with guardians and school personnel.
  • Assists in managing students with severe emotional and behavioral issues.
  • Conducts assessments of all students in crisis, including threat assessments and assessing for self-injurious behaviors.
  • Supervises behavior coaches in their development and conduction of behavioral health group sessions.
  • Follows PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention Support) plans and assists staff in understanding and implementing these policies.
  • Consults and collaborates frequently with outside agencies and MNPS staff.
  • Collects and analyzes data from behavior coaches and other sources.
  • Ensures behavior coaches complete required documentation and assessments in a timely manner.
  • Attends and actively participates in clinical treatment team supervision meetings.
  • Leads a weekly behavior coach staff meeting.
  • Maintains clear and timely professional documentation records.
  • Provides consultation and training to school staff and other behavior coaches as needed.
  • Maintains frequent engagement with parents/legal guardians.
  • Assists in transitioning students to the least restrictive school settings.
  • Develops, leads and participates in trainings during MNPS school breaks.
  • Assists coordinator in maintaining policies and procedures.
