About The Position

We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual to join The Well, our new retail coffee shop located within our church. This unique role combines leadership and administrative responsibilities with barista duties, requiring a high level of hospitality and customer service. As the Coffee Shop Lead Barista, you will be the face of our shop, ensuring a warm and inviting atmosphere for all visitors. You will manage daily operations, including inventory control, scheduling, and financial transactions, while also crafting delicious coffee beverages. You will also act as a primary host for large events and assist leading our hospitality team during Wednesday evening Family Night ministry and weekend services. Your ability to connect with customers and congregants, cultivate opportunities for the community to gather, and create memorable experiences is essential in fostering a welcoming environment that reflects our church’s values.

Requirements

  • Coffee experience with safe serve certification (certification can be completed upon hiring).
  • 3-5 years of leadership level experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equal experience in the hospitality/service field.
  • Budget experience with ability to understand financial reporting and implement corrective actions to successful result.
  • Previous experience training, mentoring and managing staff or volunteers.
  • Previous administrative experience.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • High level of customer service skills and hospitality
  • Emotional awareness
  • Able to work under pressure and maintain self-control
  • While performing the duties of this job, regularly required to talk and hear.
  • This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move items over 30 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Cultivating positive relationships with customers and creating a sense of community.
  • Preparing and serving high-quality coffee and beverages with attention to detail.
  • Overseeing daily operations of the shop and maintaining cleanliness and organization.
  • Managing inventory and ordering supplies as needed.
  • Leading and executing all administrative tasks, including strategic planning for the shop, team scheduling, budgeting, internal and external invoicing, menu pricing, and addressing customer inquiries.
  • Planning and executing volunteer recruitment, development, and appreciation.
  • Training and mentoring staff and volunteers in barista skills and customer service.
  • Implementing and enforcing sanitary practices for food handling & general cleanliness.
  • Collaborating on marketing and event planning to promote the coffee shop and increase community engagement.
  • Creating and leading an environment of belonging where all have an attitude of hospitality and are trained to carry out tasks with a high degree of skill.
