As the Lead Associate New, Business Development, you’ll be integral to our work in helping vulnerable children achieve a brighter future. You will work with country offices and technical staff to engage with donors and partners to position Save the Children in competitive donor markets. You will support the agency to successfully compete for specific opportunities by supporting or leading small teams to prepare and develop proposals for public institutional donors. This role will contribute to building and maintaining an effective business development system of tools, processes, and capacities. Through these activities you’ll contribute to the development of a robust portfolio of donor-funded awards that achieve impact for children around the world.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent, plus at least 3 years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals and teams at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Experience supporting the development of cost proposals and managing proposal development for the USG or other public funding sources.
  • Demonstrated ability to review and analyze solicitation materials against agency priorities and explore/discuss competitive landscape to inform decision making.
  • Ability to work independently with provided direction and as part of a dynamic team.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with accuracy and attention to detail, and work under pressure with flexibility for competing/evolving priorities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven work environment.
  • Able and willing to undertake primarily international travel, up to 10% of the time, occasionally on short (one week’s) notice.
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite to include intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel.
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English, with proven copyediting and document production experience.

Responsibilities

  • Capture and Proposal Development (40%): Supports capture efforts for prioritized small opportunities in partnership with Save the Children country offices and US technical staff, including bid and competitiveness analysis, teaming strategy and partner selection, and proposal planning.
  • Gather and analyze donor intelligence and market research to position Save the Children as a partner of choice and a strong competitor.
  • Lead in proposal team management for small strategic public institutional proposals or subrecipient proposals, including for domestic opportunities or private funding opportunities as needed.
  • Oversee technical, operational, and cost contributions to proposals from thematic, country office, and partner staff; write, review, and edit proposal sections; and lead in proposal production and quality control.
  • Coordinate proposal pricing, recruitment, technical, and management leads, guiding and supporting the development of coherent, responsive submissions that reflect best practices in business development.
  • Lead on proposal production, ensuring submitted proposals are compliant with donor requirements and reflect Save the Children’s quality expectations.
  • Portfolio Management and Pipeline Development (40%): Serve as the New Business Development point of contact for select country offices, assisting them with positioning and donor, partner, and government engagement efforts to develop a pipeline of public institutional funding opportunities.
  • Convene country offices and technical colleagues to prepare rationale and supporting data for pursuit of small strategic opportunities, including analysis of win probability and partnership options.
  • Strengthen the capacity of staff to respond to strategic opportunities through delivery of information training and tools, including: country and regional trainings, and/or one-on-one interaction with HQ and field based staff on proposal teams.
  • Support leads to carry out strategic account management duties.
  • Knowledge Management and Team Support (20%) Maintain appropriate systems, procedures, policies, and materials to support the identification, selection, and response to strategic opportunities.
  • Assist in organizing and employing department tools, templates, and capacity strengthening resources in support of proposal development.
  • Assist in revising business development resources, tools, and templates or creation of new resources; Assist in maintaining team management, knowledge management, and reporting platforms;
  • Support other New Business Development staff as needed, such as in desk research, pulling/analyzing reports, etc.
