Reporting to the Assembly Supervisor, the Assembly Lead is primarily responsible for assisting the Supervisor in overseeing the Assembly Line. This person may perform all aspects of the Assembly Line such as assembling parts, as well as give instruction to the assemblers assigned to the lines. This role is responsible for acting as a good role model for the rest of the department and for keeping the department organized and clean.

  • Assist the Supervisor in directing and assisting in the work activities of assemblers.
  • Prepare work to be accomplished by studying assembly instructions, blueprint specifications, and parts lists; gathering parts, subassemblies, tools, and materials.
  • Coordinate orders with material handling and work with Production Control to assure orders are ready for assembly.
  • Position parts and subassemblies by using templates or reading measurements.
  • Assemble components by examining connections for correct fit; fastening parts and subassemblies.
  • Verify specifications by measuring completed components.
  • Resolve assembly problems by altering dimensions to meet specifications; notifying supervisor to obtain additional resources.
  • Provide input on schedule to ensure maximum efficiency and on-time delivery is met.
  • Keep informed of any changes and new procedures throughout the day to stay on schedule.
  • Keep equipment operational by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Maintain supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
  • Conserve resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Document actions by completing production and quality forms.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate and plant safety standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • High school degree, diploma or a GED equivalent qualification from an accredited institution.
  • Previous lead experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to efficiently work in a team and coordinate work with other departments.
  • Aptitude to take orders and execute the same efficiently.
  • Strong basic math skills.
  • Demonstrated detail orientation, self-motivation skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Good finger and hand dexterity.
  • Basic knowledge in blueprints reading and torque values.
  • Previous experience working within a highly technical environment with light electrical assembly and/or heavy equipment assembly.
  • Previous forklift experience.
  • Exposure to a Lean manufacturing environment.
