As a Lead API Developer within PNC's Retail Tech organization, you will be based in Pittsburgh, PA, or Strongsville, OH. We are seeking an experienced Lead API Developer to design, develop, and maintain scalable RESTful APIs for backend microservices in a financial services environment. The ideal candidate will have strong Java and Spring Boot expertise, with proven experience integrating with cloud-based Contact Center as a Service (CCaaS) systems as a major plus. This role demands full DevOps lifecycle ownership, from development to deployment, with strong skills in automation, troubleshooting, and performance optimization. Job Description Creates and leads the technical design and development of software solutions. Proposes & designs software solutions to address complex business needs. Prepares technical and procedural documentation required. Facilitates complex problem resolution. Provides technical guidance and support to colleagues. Reviews coding, testing, and documentation of software. Applies modern principles, methodologies and tools to advance business initiatives and capabilities. Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in backend/API development, with at least 5 years in Java and Spring Boot.
  • Strong expertise in REST API design and microservice architecture.
  • Proficient in DevOps tools and practices:
  • CI/CD with Jenkins
  • API gateway and security with DataPower
  • Web application security with Akamai
  • Source control using Git
  • Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills across the development lifecycle.
  • Solid understanding of API security, OAuth, and data protection in financial systems.
  • Prior Experience with Kafka, Data Streaming, and associated ETL processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience integrating with cloud-based CCaaS platforms in a financial services context.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy RESTful APIs using Java and Spring Boot.
  • Integrate microservices with cloud-based CCaaS systems in a secure and scalable way.
  • Lead API architecture discussions, ensuring robust design and version control.
  • Own the full DevOps cycle for APIs: build, test, deploy, monitor, and support.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including infrastructure, QA, and business stakeholders.
