About The Position

This is a full-time, varied shift position located at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. The schedule will be Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Lead Answering Service Attendant provides exceptional customer service as a switchboard operator and answering service representative. Handles incoming calls and routine inquiries, directing them to appropriate personnel. Responds to and documents emergency situations in accordance with policies. Collaborates with the team, assisting in onboarding and training new staff. Pages physicians, security, and staff via radio, pagers, computer systems, or PA system. Ensures compliance with documentation standards and supports departmental tasks including timekeeping and scheduling. Manages pager inventory, programming, and troubleshooting. Serves as the primary after-hours contact, managing patient calls and coordinating with on-call physicians. Maintains accurate physician on-call schedules in logs and scheduling documents

Requirements

  • Demonstrates strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally in a variety of situations.
  • Proficient in computer systems, including the use of multiple systems simultaneously, and adapts quickly to new technologies.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment, maintaining accuracy and efficiency while performing repetitive hand motions.
  • Effectively manages multiple tasks and priorities under pressure, ensuring a smooth and timely workflow.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-5 years of experience in Call Center, PBX, or Answering Service roles.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare experience is also highly desirable.
