SUMMARY: The Lead Mechanic oversees the maintenance tasks in the service, repair, and overhaul of aircraft to ensure airworthiness. Ensures timely completion of tasks and provides training and mentorship for an assigned function area. Assists with Maintenance Supervisor responsibilities for short periods of time.

  • Detailed knowledge of specialty area, paperwork, and publications, and an understanding of technical information, in order to troubleshoot problems.
  • Ability to meet all regulatory requirements per FAR 65.
  • General PC skills and basic knowledge in MS Office (Outlook, Word).
  • General working knowledge of Gateway programs, and may include Oracle.
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ recent commercial aircraft maintenance and/or MRO experience preferred.
  • Applicable Repairman, Airframe, or Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures all tasks are promptly completed in compliance with federal regulations, customer guidelines, and company policies.
  • Reviews required customer and FAA paperwork to ensure proper maintenance updates and compliance with applicable regulations and customer requirements.
  • Leads the maintenance, preventative maintenance, or alteration of, or approves and returns to service, any aircraft, or part thereof, only for which that Lead is rated and has satisfactorily performed the work concerned at an earlier date.
  • Performs maintenance tasks as required and becomes an active crew member.
  • Conducts crew meetings to ensure communication regarding work, safety, and quality.
  • Uses technical data to order parts and ensure the material is effective for the aircraft being installed on.
  • Ensures all parts for the specialty area are ordered in a timely manner.
  • Ensures Engineering is submitted on time as needed.
  • Responsible for keeping all assigned areas clean and audit-ready.
  • Identifies and eliminates hazards that pose a risk to employee safety and quality of work.
  • Ensures compliance with safety requirements.
  • Responsible for on-time delivery in assigned skill set in coordination with other skill sets.
  • Monitors and corrects routine and non-routine labor hours prior to exceeding the allotted estimated hours.
  • Notifies Supervisor of variations in labor requirements to ensure the most efficient utilization of labor and resources and to avoid LOW when possible.
  • Answers questions from customers as needed.
  • Responsible for setting timeframe expectations with technicians on task card accomplishment.
  • Oversees On-the-Job Training (OJT) to provide learning opportunities through work assignments and mentoring.
  • Recommends changes to processes to improve efficiencies and workflow.
  • Complies with, communicates, and provides guidance to team members on ATS policies, procedures, and Safety Management System (SMS) requirements.
  • Promotes the “Balanced Technician" concept.
  • Mentors and develops the technical and leadership skills of the mechanics.
  • Communicates all information on assigned employees to the supervisor, including disciplinary problems.
  • May deliver or give input with performance evaluations on assigned employees.
  • Provides regular feedback and performance coaching, including appropriate time management, task prioritization, and ensuring proper knowledge and training to accomplish assignments for all members of the assigned crew.
  • Responsible for accurate timekeeping, including clocking into jobs.
  • Responsible for the accuracy of clocking into jobs for the assigned team.
  • Responsible for adhering to all ATS-required training.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Effective and appropriate conduct with co-workers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Performs Delegated Inspector duties as assigned.
  • Duties shall include observing all company, health, safety, and environmental rules, ensuring the provision of full information on area-specific safety orientation, identifying all unique hazards, and being provided with the proper equipment to carry out the job safely.
  • Also, the entire work area must be routinely inspected to maintain a high standard of housekeeping and a low incidence of physical hazards, and all accidents must be promptly reported.
