About The Position

This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Orange Coast Medical Center. The employee shall support Orange Coast Medical Center’s strategic plan and participate in and advocate performance improvement/patient safety activities. The Lead is under the direction of the Supervisor/ Manager of Admitting and assists with coordinating the activities of the Admitting staff. The Admitting Lead registers, pre-registers patients compiling accurate demographic information. This individual is responsible for verifying insurance and obtaining authorization numbers when needed. The Lead assists in reviewing accounts in the work queues and training new staff. They are an extension of the leadership team and help resolve issues as they arise. Additionally, they promote a positive team environment and maintain effective working relationships with admitting management, co-workers, clinicians, patients, and others.

Requirements

  • 2 or more years of experience in the admitting department, business office, or physician office
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Knowledge of insurance payors\: PPO, HMO, POS, EPO, Medicare, Medi-Cal, & Cal-Optima
  • General computer skills required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Coordinator or Lead experience preferred.
  • Bi-lingual (English/ Spanish, or English/ Vietnamese) preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • High school graduate preferred
  • Medical Terminology course or certificate preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assists in leading the activities of the team to ensure work objectives are met.
  • Monitors and manages work queues and/or reports as assigned.
  • Interprets insurance benefits, authorization requirements, and admission requirements.
  • Models outstanding customer service skills using “Simply Better” and AIDET principles.
  • Communicates effectively in written and verbal form.
  • Assists with the department monthly schedule as well as ensuring appropriate daily department coverage.
  • Interacts in a positive and constructive manner and promotes conflict resolution.
  • Serves as a knowledgeable and available resource to the staff.
  • Avoids HIPAA violations by choosing correct MRN and maintains complete patient/employer confidentiality.
  • Ensures all registration forms are complete, signed, and scanned. Enter notes in Epic as required.
  • Collects and posts payments timely and accurately. Immediately drops payment in safe or cash drawer.
  • Maintains registration accuracy rate of 95% or better.
  • Ability to be at work and be on time.
  • Ability to follow company policies, procedures and directives.
  • Ability to interact in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask.
