Student Life Disability Services at The Ohio State University is a department that provides academic support services for students with disabilities. The Lead Access Specialist works with students, staff, and faculty to improve campus accessibility with the goal of ensuring that students with disabilities have full access to their university experience. Evaluates disability documentation and conducts student interviews to determine eligibility for services; collaborates with students, faculty, and staff to implement accommodations; counsels and advises students regarding academic progress, accommodations; maintains confidential information and records; documents communication with and regarding students, courses and instructors in departmental database; refers students to campus and community resources; serves as an advocate for accessibility and inclusion; ensures compliance with relevant laws including but not limited to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADAAA), Section 504, Section 508, the National Voter Registration Act; contributes to verbal and written communication of office operational policies and practices; ;supervises, mentors and trains Access Specialist team members; may supervise student employees; assists with staff selection and on-boarding; conducts and oversees application processing and documentation review processes; assumes additional caseload and case management as needed; conducts outreach & education workshops, and presentations; provides coverage in other SLDS functional areas when needed; serves on committees as assigned, Acts as a liaison for other departments.
