About The Position

The Ld Hemodialysis Technician at Phoenix Children's Hospital is responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient flow of patients in the dialysis clinic. This role involves performing delegated functions from nursing and physician staff, maintaining a safe and organized environment, and acting as a primary preceptor for CCHTs and Registered Nurses. The technician plays a crucial role in patient care by preparing and testing dialysis equipment, monitoring patients, and documenting treatment parameters while adhering to established protocols and guidelines.

Requirements

  • Certification as a Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT).
  • Experience in a clinical setting, preferably in dialysis or related fields.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of dialysis protocols and patient care standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in pediatric healthcare settings.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble necessary supplies and oversee monthly specimen collection for laboratory studies.
  • Prepare and test the dialysis extra corporeal circuit and machine according to protocol and patient-specific dialysis prescription.
  • Discontinue dialysis treatments and establish hemostasis following unit protocol.
  • Inspect, clean, and dress access according to unit protocol.
  • Administer local anesthesia, insert needles, and initiate dialysis according to unit protocol and patient prescription.
  • Document pre, intra, and post-treatment parameters and vital signs, and communicate patient condition to the Registered Nurse.
  • Act as a primary preceptor for CCHTs and registered nurses within the CCHT scope of practice.
  • Ensure appropriate machine and quality logs are organized and complete.
  • Measure and adjust blood flow rates, calculate fluid removal, and administer replacement saline and anticoagulant according to unit protocols and prescription.
  • Monitor patients and equipment, respond to alarms, and readjust treatment parameters as defined by established protocols.
