Position Overview: Manage a self-contained classroom for high school students with mild-to-moderate disabilities, creating a safe space for academic and personal growth. Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) specifically tailored for students with histories of truancy, focusing on realistic goal-setting and consistent progress. Utilize flexible, creative instructional strategies to spark curiosity and bring students back into the fold of long-term academic success. Work alongside a dedicated team of social workers, attendance coordinators, and paraprofessionals committed to student re-engagement and address external barriers and celebrate every attendance milestone to ensure long-term student success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Special Education (Required)
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Learning Behavior Specialist I (LBS1) endorsement for the High School Level (Required)
  • Experience or a strong desire to work with high-risk urban youth and a deep understanding of the trauma-informed care model
