About The Position

Our Lawn Technicians ensure the safety and appropriate application of chemical products and fertilizer to enhance the quality of our client’s landscape. This role involves performing all responsibilities of a crew member, assisting in landscaping functions in a leadership capacity, and managing work for crew members. Key duties include completing daily paperwork, promoting Mainscape’s Standard of Excellence, and organizing, supervising, leading, and training employees. The technician is also responsible for equipment maintenance, ensuring proper safety device installation, and operating various light and heavy equipment. Safety is paramount, requiring adherence to company policies, proper PPE utilization, and maintaining a safe environment for all. Customer interaction, quality control, and communication with management are also essential. The position requires knowledge of plant identification, pest control procedures, and specific duties across mowing, pruning, bed care, landscape installation, flower care, fertilization, irrigation, refuse removal, cleaning, and snow removal.

Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age and meet all applicable state-mandated labor laws.
  • Previous experience as Crew Member.
  • Has satisfactorily completed the prescribed “Crew Member” training guide and can perform those specified essential duties.
  • Knowledge of Mainscape Standards of Excellence.
  • Ability to enforce safety of the customer, job site, and company employees on site.
  • Ability to enforce company safety policies and procedures.
  • Able to effectively drive and back-up a truck and trailer combination.
  • Ability to interact with customer daily as needed.
  • Ability to identify and correct all unsafe conditions and practices and communicate actions to supervisor and/or owners.
  • Ability to adhere to company policies, standards and safety guidelines.
  • Ability to work with other employees as a team.
  • Ability to meet or exceed company production rates set forth.
  • Maintain valid driver’s license and insurability based on company insurance requirements.
  • Ability to communicate w/ lead people and crew members regarding progress of tasks and assignments.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in irrigation.

Nice To Haves

  • Six (6) to twelve (12) months of previous commercial experience as a crew leader.
  • Pesticide License.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Irrigation certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all responsibilities required of a crew member.
  • Assist in the performance of various landscaping functions in a leadership capacity.
  • Encourage advancement of crewmembers after proper training has occurred.
  • Plan, organize and manage work for crew members on job.
  • Properly discipline and reward crewmembers.
  • Develop and maintain motivated and effective crews.
  • Complete daily paperwork as required by each job.
  • Demonstrating role model behaviors on ethics and integrity as well as positively promoting Mainscape’s Standard of Excellence.
  • Organize, supervise, lead, and train employees to complete assigned projects within established guidelines and time frame.
  • Share responsibility for checking and changing oil and grease in basic equipment.
  • Supervise truck/trailer setup daily and manage equipment and supplies for landscape maintenance projects.
  • Oversee all equipment has proper safety devices installed and operational.
  • Maintain equipment in good operating condition.
  • Operate light/heavy equipment effectively and according to all regulations.
  • Report any problems with job site or equipment immediately.
  • Ensure proper task-specific PPE is being properly utilized and maintained at all times by crew members.
  • Follow all company policies & procedures, including safety guidelines/standards.
  • Ensure a safe environment for other workers and vendors, clients and for all employees.
  • Interface with client when needed.
  • Establish relationship with customers.
  • Demonstrate ability to recognize and report irrigation deficiencies.
  • Communicate with Operations Manager and Account Manager regarding status of assigned job sites.
  • Identify 50 most frequently used plants by common names and demonstrate knowledge of the cultural requirements of those plants.
  • Participate in training program for basic pest control procedures.
  • Operate Push mowers, Walk behind with Velke, Zero turn riding mowers, String trimmers, Blowers for mowing.
  • Proper set up/ dispersal of crew members on job site for mowing.
  • Perform crew layout for mowing.
  • Drive truck & trailer for mowing.
  • Use Ladders, Gas powered hedge trimmers, Loppers / hand pruners, Chain saws for pruning.
  • Ability to recognize plants that need special pruning needs/times.
  • Perform crew layout for pruning.
  • Drive truck & trailer for pruning.
  • Ability to properly apply pre-emergent, selective and non-selective herbicides for bed care.
  • Ability to identify desirable plants from weeds in a specific area for bed care.
  • Perform pulling and spraying of weeds for bed care.
  • Perform mixing of chemicals for bed care.
  • Read and follow plans, material lists, guidelines and apply necessary timelines for landscape installation.
  • Fulfill all regular and advanced installation/construction duties including project layout and complete required paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of blueprints for landscape installation.
  • Perform identification of plants for flower care.
  • Perform watering and fertilization of plants for flower care.
  • Perform checking plants for insects/diseases for flower care.
  • Perform loading and fill procedures for flower care.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the proper procedure for emergency spill cleanup for fertilization.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the basic elements of fertilizers.
  • Able to train field staff in the application of chemicals.
  • Detects and makes necessary repairs to the irrigation system.
  • Accurately read various gauges related to the irrigation system.
  • Manage assigned projects practicing effective and efficient water management.
  • Interpret job specifications and blueprints for irrigation.
  • Install sprinkler systems.
  • Provide estimates and maintain positive client relations for irrigation.
  • Operate pumps, suction and other equipment for irrigation.
  • Manage assigned projects practicing effective water management techniques for irrigation.
  • Recognize drainage deficiencies and problem soils for irrigation.
  • Ability to safely operate a refuse truck in a residential area for refuse removal.
  • Know how to lift /move heavy items for refuse removal.
  • Thorough knowledge of the lock-in /lock-out procedure for refuse removal.
  • Ability to safely operate a compactor for refuse removal.
  • Thorough knowledge of proper PPE for cleaning.
  • Ability to safely use cleaning supplies and solvents.
  • Ability to work in residential and commercial areas for cleaning.
  • Ability to safely use snow removal equipment.
  • Knowledge of safe driving techniques in snow and ice conditions.
  • Knowledge of appropriate clothing for the weather conditions that he/she will be exposed to for snow removal.
