About The Position

The Law Student Volunteer position at the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) offers a unique opportunity for law students to gain practical experience in a federal legal environment. The internship is divided into two terms: a part-time program for Spring 2025 requiring 15-20 hours per week, and a full-time program for Summer 2025. The Spring program may allow for limited telework based on operational needs, while the Summer program permits telework two times per week after completing onboarding and training. Interns will work closely with attorneys in the Office of Chief Counsel, engaging in meaningful legal work that supports the DEA's enforcement mission. Responsibilities include conducting legal research, drafting memoranda, motions, and correspondence, and creating presentations. Interns will also interact with agency officials and participate in various assignments across different practice areas, including criminal programs, civil litigation, and regulatory matters. The program emphasizes the development of essential skills for future attorneys and provides opportunities to build professional relationships and create polished writing samples. Additionally, interns may participate in special events, such as training sessions with DEA Special Agents and lab outings with chemists, providing a comprehensive view of the federal legal and law enforcement system. This internship is particularly suited for those interested in public service and law enforcement, as it involves working on cutting-edge legal questions and engaging with a diverse range of legal issues.
