About The Position

The Superior Court of California, County of Contra Costa, is announcing an open recruitment for a Law Student Intern/Volunteer for the summer of 2025. This is a volunteer/unpaid position with a final filing date of December 09, 2024. The internship is specifically for first-year law students (1L) who must apply directly to this posting for consideration. The placement locations include Contra Costa County-Martinez, Pittsburg, Walnut Creek, and Richmond. The assignments are geared towards highly motivated and self-reliant individuals who prefer a low-profile, behind-the-scenes role in the legal research process. Interns will engage in analytical reasoning and communicate through written work. Duties may include drafting objective memorandums on various legal matters, performing legal research, reviewing and preparing tentative rulings for Law & Motion Calendars, and other assigned duties. The internship program will run from June 09, 2025, to August 1, 2025.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in law school as a 1L.
• Submit a completed online application including education field and contact information.
• Attach a cover letter and resume.
• Provide a writing sample, no more than ten pages long (six pages recommended).

Responsibilities

• Draft objective memorandums on civil, criminal, family law, and juvenile matters.
• Perform legal research on a variety of civil, criminal, family law, and juvenile matters.
