About The Position

The Law Reference Librarian at Syracuse University will support the Hybrid/Online J.D. Program (JDinteractive) by providing reference and research assistance to law students and fostering relationships with students and faculty. This role involves developing initiatives to enhance the research experience, providing individual and classroom instruction, and maintaining the Law Library's collection in assigned subject areas.

Requirements

• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school or equivalent non-U.S. law degree required.
• Master's Degree in Library Science or equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution, completed or close to completion required.
• Demonstrated knowledge of academic research tools and methods applicable to legal research.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• One year of academic law library experience preferred.
• Strong commitment to legal reference service and instruction in a complex educational environment preferred.
• High degree of professionalism and ability to work independently and interact effectively with others.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal reference and research services to students, faculty, alumni, and visitors, with a focus on JDi law students.
• Support College of Law teaching and research by providing individualized legal research assistance and developing the Law Library's collections.
• Serve as the library's liaison to faculty in the JDi program.
• Provide direct patron service at the Reference Desk, including evenings and weekends on rotation.
• Provide classroom instruction to JDi law students to develop their legal research proficiency.
• Create Research Guides to support individual classes and foster relationships with JDi students and faculty.
